From the moment we arrived, our hosts João and his mother Alierta both made us feel very welcome with a bottle of wine and delicious local cheese awaiting us in our villa. They then gave us a guided tour of what once was a working farm. Our villa was part of a beautiful and sensitively restored farmhouse in a rural situation, the villa itself sits within a beautiful large orchard of olive, almond, carob, quince and pomegranate trees. This was a perfect location for a relaxing day on the farm when we just wanted to chill out and enjoy the countryside. Within a five minute stroll there is a typical Portuguese cafe selling traditional Algarve food and wonderful coffee. A great place to check emails over a drink before heading off for the beach.
The farm was ideally situated with easy access to the motorway and being only 15 minutes drive from the coast and five minutes from the main highway access to whole of the Algarve is easy, yet we we were set in a very peaceful location. The villa itself is fully equipped with everything you need for a self catering holiday, however with several good restaurants in nearby Santa Barbara itself including the two outstanding La Piazza and Alogoas both are great value for money with friendly staff and terrific food , as a result we ate out most nights except for a couple of times when stayed at home and had a barbecue.
We would highly recommend this villa for a relaxing holiday.
