only 15 mins drive out of Lagos (on n125 and head for Odiaxere and follow the brown signs for BARRAGEM) very peaceful, nature at its best, with the beautiful freshwater lake, surrounded by sloping hills dotted with pine & eucalptus trees. There is a main trail you can go round the entire lake ......but dont attempt walking it as would take too long as the lake is huge with several 'legs' coming off it. Cafe/restaurant only open during day called hello/goodbye perfect for lunch and swim after :) Spotted few herons, egreets on banks of the lake. Would be ideal for canoeing, paddle boarding , no motorised boats allowed. I believe you can go fishing there if you get a licence. Its also a fab place to go have a picnic as plenty of shaded trees to sit under, but bring everything you need of course. Really lovely quiet peaceful and serene spot to relax and reflect on the natural beauties of life :)
Only a short drive from Odiaxere along very quiet roads......even better if you cycle up there as we did. The last few miles are a bit strenuous but downhill all the way on the way back. Wonderful scenery across the reservoir, and great snacks at Hello Goodbye.
Well worth a visit. Lovely countryside and you get an impression of rural Portugal and the smallholding community.
We had a wonderful and completely deserted visit to the Barragem da Bravura.
It is very beautiful and there is a trail you can walk along.
The routes are not well mapped/sign posted and so we walked for about 90 mins and then turned back and went back the way we came but it wasn't boring on the way back.
We didn't encounter any other people during our visit and it was a lovely change from the busy beaches of Lagos.
We parked at the Hello Goodbye restaurant (closed on Mondays) and headed down to the dam and reservoir from there.
Wear proper shoes as the paths are dusty and a bit uneven in places and bring plenty of water with you as without the coastal breeze it can get quite hot.
An unknown place, so quiet, impressive, visit the restaurant Hello Goodbey, swim and lunch at the lake! Take good shoes for walking around the lake.
A trip through surprising farmland and hills and scattered settlements takes you up to the foothills of the Monchique range and the amazing reservoir and 300' high dam. You park beyond the Hello/Goodbye café (closed Mondays) great lunches at the weekend. You walk down to the dam, cross over and gather the path through the woods until you come to an inlet to the turquoise waters...................and have a swim!
The Barragem da Bravura is absolutely stunning.
It is a great dam to swim in and in the summer gets quite warm, though at this time of the year it is also beautifully refreshing.
There is generally never anyone here so you are almost guaranteed to have the amazing view to yourself.
