This was our second trip to the Ardagh holiday homes on Bere Island and we were unsure whether we would enjoy it as much as our first visit 6 years ago. We booked for a week and came to exactly the same conclusion as before.....we did not want to leave!. First of all, the houses are perfectly positioned about 2 kms outside of Rerrin which is the village on the island. The houses are all detached 3 Bedroom houses, all large and airy. I like to paint and my wife likes needlecraft and we found there was so much light and space in which we could work. Being a place of utter tranquility, we found that we totally chill....brilliant. Of course like so many who visit Bere, we walked!. That's right, walked because around every corner you find the most gorgeous views and you feel you're in touch with your 'Irishness', as you encounter a lifestyle so far removed from the rat race. It is a little world of its own, with Martello towers and standing stones and flora resonating with life. Ya, we enjoyed it. The natives are friendly.....seriously decent, welcoming folk, what ever the age bracket. Everyone gives you a wave and is sorry to see you leave. Brendan and Edel Murphy were our contacts there and we almost felt like part of their family and Mary in the shop was so charming too. Come to Bere for just a day and you'll never wish to leave.

We stayed in Ardagh village in mid-July 2009, two and adults and three children. The houses are a lovely size, comfortable beds, fully fitted kitchen with washing machine and tumble dryer. Cosy, comfortable living room with TV, however we did not get to use this as too much else going on. Houses are perfectly situated for touring the island, strolling down to the shop or for a swim off the pier at high tide. We would definitely recommend them and will certainly be back.

Having spent 3 days on Bere Island in July we wanted to come back as there was so much to see and do. We returned in August, 6 Adults and 9 Children in Lawerance Cove Lodge for 4 days. It was fantastic, accommodation is ideal for this type of family get together, the kids slept in the 8 Bed Dorm (with en-suite) which was nicknamed ‘The Cousins Club’, Edel moved in a camp bed to accommodate the smallest cousin and there was plenty of room. There are double rooms and family rooms available also all en-suite. We found having access to the kitchen ideal for such a large group and we were comfortably able to cook breakfast and pack lunches before heading off for the day. Any food that was required we got from Murphy’s shop which is 2 mins away. We hired bikes and cycled from end to end, swam on the most beautiful beaches, kayaked out into Bantry Bay, went on a sea safari which was like a roller coaster ride and swam in the pier at high tide. Overall a magical, unforgettable holiday and one that we will repeat next year… already booked Lawerance Cove Lodge for next year with another 4 added to our group of 15.
