Wonderful Experience

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 03 Apr 2024
Spacious rooms with a 365-degree view of the desert. However, the room gets extremely hot during the day and the first room we stayed in, the air conditioning was not working. We informed the staff who told us that it was due to the extreme heat. But we requested to change rooms and in the second room the air-conditioning was working well. So definitely not the heat. But now in the second room we did not have hot water which we managed to survive without for a day because of the extreme heat even though early morning was a bit chilly.

Nonetheless, despite these two mishaps, we enjoyed our stay. The staff are welcoming, very friendly and the lodge is extremely child friendly. The food is excellent, especially their five-course dinner. Top of the mountain you can enjoy a magnificent sunset and sundowners with yummy snacks. But the climb is not for the faint hearted. Also, if your room is somewhere in the middle or to the far end the walk is something else so better request for the rooms closeted to the reception area.

All in all, it was a wonderful experience.

We stayed two nights at Namib Outpost when visiting Sossusvlei and found it a wonderful place to stay. The Villa was beautifully decorated with lots of room and everything you needed. As it was warm we slept outside in the extra large bed on the verandah and it was amazing to sleep under the stars. The staff were all exceptionally friendly and the food was lovely. Our guide Johannes gave us a great tour of the dunes, Sesriem canyon and took us for a sunset drive.
We highly recommend Namib Outpost if you are visiting Sossusvlei.

The one thing we were most insistent on, thr air-conditioning, did not work. We were thr only people at the lodge but staff were unwilling or unable to do anything. 35 deg outside. Would not recommend. Overpriced. Flatters to deceive. Food mediocre.

There was nothing not to like starting from heart-warming reception, and throughout our stay during which we were the only couple in the property, who were kindly assisted by some 20 staff members.
This was just our luck to visit the place on weekdays and during lower season, thus we had an absolute privacy. Only us and nature!
The chalets, restaurant, viewing terraces, and the pools areas were spotlessly clean, well designed, and professionally served.
Great experience!

This resort is stunning! We had no idea how gorgeous of a place we had booked! So memorable! Staff was fantastic also! The photos on the website do not do it justice! Every aspect of the resort from the rooms, the restaurant, pool area, and bars were stunning!

Most people who are looking to book in this area already know: it’s hot. Very hot. But the Namib Outpost is, as much as possible, an oasis from the heat. After we spent the morning hiking sand dunes, the amazing Whitney greeted us with chilled, fragrant towels so we could wipe off the dust and sweat before heading to our room. The pool area has large, luxurious shaded couches to lounge on after taking a dip in the cold pools (there are two). The room itself provides a respite from the heat: your private, enclosed deck has an outdoor shower and lounge chairs, where you can doze in the shade, feel the warm breeze waft over your relaxed body, and watch oryxes in the distance. By the time the sun begins to set and you head up the path to the sunset viewing area, where there are drinks and snacks waiting for you, the breeze is cooler, and you can nestle into a lounge chair or beanbag to watch the sun turn orange, then pink, as you sip a beverage and watch the orb fall gently into the mountains.

The Namib Outpost is a relaxing environment where nothing is rushed — including the approach to the lodge, where there are speed bumps to remind drivers to slowwwwww dowwwwwn. The multi-course, set-menu dinner arrives at the pace you choose (we were hungry, so the amazing Riaan brought our courses one after another!), and even checkout asks guests to stop for a moment to reflect on their stay.

The very private and highly luxurious room has a small air conditioner, though remember that the Outpost runs on solar power, a stocked minibar, and a large bathroom. One very important piece of advice: there’s a turndown service during dinner, and someone comes to close the mosquito netting around your bed. LEAVE IT CLOSED during the night. The mosquitoes are real. Really real. They didn’t bother us during the day, but they do love the nightlife.

The Outpost has a variety of activities, but we had our own vehicle and drove to the dunes of Sossusvlei ourself. The drive took about 45 minutes to the gate from the parking lot of the lodge.

This is a beautiful, high-end oasis in the Namib Desert, and a fantastic place to relax.
