Well for sure there are people that likes to be so secluded and ...whatever ...but the access to this development is horrible to say the least...it is difficult during the day to go there...can immagine at night after few drinks in coronado??? Much better mountain community with ocean view and easy access in Panama!!!!

Yes, Altos del Maria is NOT a tourist attraction for the afternoon nor a national park.
It is a 15 year old privately owned gated community consisting of 15,000 hectares, approximately 1,600 homes and approximately 125 full time residents. Many immigrants and Panamanians have homes and retreats here ranging from huge mansions to small casitas. You must be invited into the community as a guest of a resident. It is extremely well maintained and very safe. There are homes to rent and some of us have casitas or rooms for rent for those who would like to spend some time here. Bird watching, animal watching, hiking, swimming by the waterfall, or in the river, or simply watching to ensure that Mt. Picacho does not move. The flowers and trees including orchids are stunning.
It is a Garden of Eden.
Located 1.5 hours from the city, 45 minutes from Coronado. Easy access to the beaches from many points along the PanAm Highway. 30 minutes up the mountains from the PanAm Highway.
We have many small parks, a children's playground, tennis courts, soccer field, a restaurant (that has public access), a community centre, a gym and an administrative office. We also have a road over the back mountains to El Valle that takes us about 1/2 hour to transverse. Our sales centre located outside the gates is a lovely viewpoint with a complete wall map of our community.
As owners, we pay maintenance fees to ensure we have these luxuries The developer is also now offering "Glamping" to those who like to experience camping in luxury overnight or for the weekend.
It is a lovely drive up the mountain to the restaurant for breakfast or lunch. On the way, watch for the chickens, the children, the dogs, various animals, and the people all walking/crossing the road. And please, respect those by not travelling at 100 km.
Enjoy the scenery. Stop at one of the two fruit stands and get a fresh pineapple for a $1 or bananas from the tree.
I am very lucky to be able to live in this Garden of Eden.

Altos del Maria, is mainly an expat and Panamanian (where they have their country homes) mountain community with 7000 Acres, located 20 minutes from Panamericana road, and Pacific beaches near Coronado golf and beaches.
We stayed in two ocassions at Altos for a period of 3 months. It was a paradise for us. The view of the valley, and peak are stunning, The temperature is about 80 F during the day, no A/C needed, no mosquitos because of the breeze from both oceans (Pacific and Caribbean) and not as hot as by the ocean (90F or more). The vegetation and kilometers long hiking trails along the Maria River reminded us of places in Canada. October and part of November are the rainy season then after comes Spring.

This place shouldn't be listed on TripAdvisor. It's a private property without public access.

In Google maps the streets seem to be public, but finally they weren't. We had to turn back and couldn't pass...

The development of Altos del Maria consists of 7000 + acres within a gated community with 24/7 security, Altos boasts beautiful mountain views, amidst a pristine natural setting and provides for year-round comfortable living for its residents. Many green areas have been maintained, and there are a variety of mountain trails which help maintain the look and feel of a national park. Attractions include panoramic mountain, valley, green belt and Pacific Ocean views, a near perfect spring-like climate year round (75º F - 24 Cº), a first-class infrastructure including miles of paved roads, vast common areas, waterfalls, rivers, hiking trails, observation decks, parks, lookout points, flowers and trees everywhere.

Altos del Maria has may building lots for sale as well as existing homes looking for new owners. A stop at the Visitor Center will allow one the opportunity to get a great overview of this paradise and arrange for a guided tour if interested in buying. When I first saw this fantastic place I decided to relocate from Florida and become an "Altoid", as residents are known. Keep in mind that this is private property and not open to the general public.
