Owner description: You might hear this garden before you see it; its delightfully eccentric owner,Anthony Hunte BCH, plays classical music throughtout the garden. this is the working end of old Castle Grant plantation, where sugar cane was once processed into syrup. Step through the gate and you'll soon tread on the old weigh bridge, where loads of cane were tallied. Just past the old stone outbuildings, where statues lurk among exotic plants, you'll find yourself on the lip of a great, hemispherical sinkhole in the limestone substrate. Steps lead down and paths branch out through an exquisite profusion of flowering plants, with towering trees around the edges. Both here and farther along the top are a series of small secret gardens, where you can sit to absorb the serenity and enjoy a picnic. Be sure to climb the upper level steps to Mr. Hunte's house, a transformation of the old stables. He'll invite you for refreshments-including his legendary rum punch or freshly made lemonade (for sale)-on his glorious, antique studded verandah overlooking the garden. If you're lucky, he'll tell you tales, and you will surely leave with some of your own. If you're driving, follow the red and white signs that read Hunte's Gardens, from all over the island. Or, come by taxi. If you take the local bus from the Fairchild Street Bus Stand in Bridgetown it's #5 Sugar Hill Bus - Bds$2 each way.

Had a wonderful visit to Hunte’s Gardens today. Our appt went late and we rushed there hoping to be let in for the last 20 minutes and they welcomed us in and actually let us stay late as there was a wedding happening. The place is beautiful and we got to meet Anthony on the way out and he told us a bit more about the gardens and even brought us in to see baby hummingbirds. Overall well worth a trip to have a relaxing hour or two in a really special place enjoying the beauty of nature that he has clearly put a lot of work into.

A 'must' to visit, we have returned many times and always as enchanting, this year several new plants ... and a humming bird's nest!

I’ve seen several tropical botanical gardens but this compact garden in a sink hole is a topper. This has some historical connections also and the experience is sweetened by the personal contact with the owner/creator.

The gardens are all designed by Mr Hunt himself . He actually tends to his garden with one other gardener everyday and will greet you and tell you all about the flowers. This is the ost beautiful garden I have ever been in and I have seen many in Europe and US

We spent a couple of hours there, with my wife poking around and exploring. It can be a bit of a nice break from the heat and sun. Just as enjoyable, or even more so, is visiting with Mr Hunte once done perusing the gardens. An engaging and gracious host.
