Sawa Sawa Beach House is tucked away in msambweni, right on the beach. Getting there was bit of a hustle because there is no signage on road. Google maps took us to the wrong place. So we had to call the host to direct us until we arrived. On arrival we were well received by Jan (the owner), Ezekiel & Maria (his staff). They helped us settle in. The beds were comfortable, clean toiletries. The floor in all our rooms were not clean. The next day during breakfast our mixed tea was brought in 2 dirty looking thermos flasks. The mugs were also not clean. On one day they ran out of sausages .... The breakfast was ok but the service was so uncoordinated. The meals were well made and were tasty. We all loved the home made meals. The beach is clean and there are no nuisance beach boys. It's a hidden gem. Beautiful, quiet during the day, very little human traffic. This was really nice. The mornings were especially good - woken up by roaring thundering sound of waves that called for morning walks on the serene beach. Wi-Fi works perfectly. No televisions which was good - forced us to have conversations. We were almost always alone in the hotels pool. The pillow cases in the public areas need frequent laundering. They were not clean.
Overally, it's a beautiful small quiet home away from home and I will definitely be going back. However they need to do some routine maintenance on the facility and improve on cleanliness of rooms, utensils and pillow/cushion cases.

I liked Sawa Sawa Beach House so much that I simply had to bring my daughter here on her first visit to Kenya. It was perfect. So I contacted Miss Wanga in advance to arrange a wonderful meal of Red Snapper. Stunning.
Still hesitant to share this place.. It's that good.

I hesitated to write this review. Sawa Sawa is special and it would be a shame never to be able to find space there again! It is that good. Small, family feel with excellent staff - it attracts the right sort of clients who extend their friendship too. Almost perfect.

Sawa swaw is well run, but a bit worn. The owners and especially the hired staff are very helpful and caring - they really do their best to make your stay exceptional. We were three families renting the entire place for more than a week, and this way Sawa sawa beach house was really perfect. The Sawa sawa beach is a very nice one with some few foreigners and some more (but not that many) very friendly locals. We also used a local taxi guy to go north to Diani and Mombasa and south to Shimoni and Kisite Marine Park. All these trips are highly recommended.

We stayed six nights (full board) and enjoyed our time at the Sawa Sawa. The nice owners live in the Netherlands, but are available via email. At the beach house is staff who takes care of everything (special thanks to Matarah). If you are interested in safaris by motorbike, you should also get in touch with them.

The Sawa Sawa is not a star rated hotel, but a family owned guest house far away from any noise. Shower was mostly hot with good water pressure. Room and property were cleaned every day. Beer and wine were also available, just like fresh and clean water in the pool, where we enjoyed fresh coconuts for free.

We almost didn't meet any other tourists and had beach and pool most of the time to ourselves. That is luxury for us. Also, there are only a handful of really nice hawkers on the beach.

The building and rooms do indeed need maintenance here and there. But remember that the guest house is literally on the beach and therefore it gets a used look faster. If you don't prefer 100-bed hotels, then the Sawa Sawa and Msambweni could be the right choice at an affordable price. If you feel insulted by every crack in the wall or cats and dogs moving around on the property, then rather book something on Diani Beach.

This beach is still an insider tip, but definitely won't be for too long.
