“Lovely base on Gozo”
Reviewed 25 October 2015 for a stay in October 2015

We spent a very happy four nights at Tranquility Farmhouse recently as part of our trip to Malta. Peter and Toni Ann were every bit as welcoming, accommodating, and helpful as other reviewers had mentioned. The house is very roomy - all the rooms are spacious and well furnished. With only two of us it was over the top, but the rate was very reasonable.

The pool and rear courtyard aren't huge - but the pool is well situated to get some sun all day, even during the start of autumn when we stayed. It is a lot chillier than the sea, especially as it is quite deep at one end, but lovely to have access to for a quick dip or sitting around with a drink. There are lights so you can use the area at night (although turn the lights off and it's great to lie back on the sunbeds and watch the stars), and a small but functional BBQ, which we put to good use.

The kitchen is well stocked with the basics - kettle, drip coffee machine, toaster, microwave, large fridge / freezer, decent gas cooktop and electric oven. There is a decent range of crockery and cutlery, and various pans and utensils, as well as supplies for cleaning and dishwashing. I would suggest that it would benefit from a few additional basics - like a roll of cooking foil and some non-perishable basics like oil and condiments. For longer term stays it's not a big deal to have to purchase everything from scratch, but for a short stay we found it hard to buy very small quantities of such things, so left behind a nearly full bottle of ketchup, cooking oil, coffee grounds etc, and I hate wasting food.

There are two double bedrooms, one twin room, and a single room, all well fitted with wardrobes and chests of drawers, so there's plenty of storage. Both double rooms have ensuites, but the one on the first floor only has a bath with handheld shower, so if you want to have a proper shower you need to use the small central shower room, or the ensuite to the penthouse bedroom. Both double rooms have a private outdoor deck area - the penthouse deck being the most private, as well as having a handy clothes line (there is a washer, basket and pegs in the penthouse ensuite). The central shower room (which we used) is quite tight, and the shower itself is small enough that it's easy to knock the mixer lever and turn the water off mid shower, but we got used to it, and everything was very nicely finished and clean. As with many rural locations, the water pressure is not great - although the solar hot water was very hot once it got to you. We found that switching the shower head to the tighter flow gave a reasonable pressure once you got the balance right.

Even in October the weather was still quite warm (to us, anyway), but keeping the windows to the central courtyard shaft open helped ventilate the house, and there were pedestal fans available, and screens on all the windows so you could keep them open for a breeze if you wanted. The house is made of huge limestone blocks, so great for maintaining a temperature, but like all stone houses, once the heat gets in, it takes some work to get it out again.

We had a fantastic time at Tranquility, the only drawback for us was that the bed was VERY hard. We had the option of using either of the two double rooms, but the mattresses seemed to be identical, so we stayed with the main bedroom on the first floor (fewer stairs). With back and hip issues, I found it very difficult to get a good night's sleep, and my partner, who is normally able to sleep on anything, also struggled. We realise that providing bedding in accommodation is always a compromise, but if you need a soft bed, this may not be the right house for you. (we managed by using the foam mattress off the sofa bed in the lounge as a topper underneath the sheet and mattress protector, which helped a little).

That niggle aside, we were very sad to leave, as we'd found the house to be a wonderful base for our Gozo adventure, and Peter and Toni Ann to be lovely hosts - there when you needed them, but not intrusive in the least. We swam at a different beach every day, were able to be self-sufficient and prepare some great meals at home (which we prefer to do), and loved exploring Gozo, which its amazing archaeology and coastline.

Nadur is very handily located - not far from the harbour where the ferry arrives, and very close to Ramla and San Blas Bays, and an easy drive to the whole island (Gozo isn't terribly big so everywhere is reachable). There are several small market stores for general food / household needs, and once you find the various butchers and bakeries tucked away underneath townhouses around the town, you'll have plenty of options for catering. There is also a lovely restaurant "The Fat Rabbit' and a great pizza place "Rabokk' - both are centrally located and an easy walk. (both were suggestions from Peter and Toni Ann - and great choices), as well as several other eating options and bars.

A couple of tips - having a car does make getting around a lot easier and there is parking near the house, but get a SMALL car if you can. Many of the roads are very narrow and finding parking in other places can be challenging. The roads on Gozo seem to be of two varieties - short stretches of beautiful new sweeping boulevard in the oddest places, and vast areas of what can only kindly be described as 'nothing more than the fillings of potholes'. Interestingly, the former seemed to be on roads indicated on our maps as 'minor' routes, and the latter almost universally marked as 'major'. Traffic can get interesting as local drivers are generally not in a hurry, and while nominally Malta drives on the left hand side (like the UK) this seems to be more of a concept than reality, probably due to the large number of tourist drivers.

“Truly Amazing”
Reviewed 30 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

I have just come back from a 2 week holiday on Gozo and stayed at "Tranquility Farmhouse". The farmhouse was all I could of wished for and more, it was very spacious, immaculately clean, beautifully furnished, great kitchen area and a superbly maintained pool. The owners Toni Ann & Peter were so nice and extremely helpful, they done all they could to help us enjoy our stay on Gozo, even helping us book some activities. They never hassled us or interfered but we're always available if we needed any help with anything which was very much appreciated. I am already looking at dates for next year and can not wait to return to Gozo for another holiday at "Tranquility Farmhouse" and to see Toni Ann & Peter again.

“Great, peaceful and relaxing time”
Reviewed 29 September 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We spent two fantastic weeks in Peter and Tony’s brilliant home, aptly named 'Tranquility'.

The house is big, finished off by Peter himself with clear attention to detail and a design to keep you in a pleasant cool breeze without the need for an air conditioning unit.

The kitchen itself is also big with all necessary utensils needed for regular cooking and dining.

Our hosts were always welcoming and took great care of us. They booked the airport transfer, hired a car, and were waiting for us at the ferry terminal on Gozo to help us find our way and settle in.

The island itself amazed us with its gorgeous sights and views, friendly people, and delicious local cuisine.

Thank you Peter and Toni Ann!

“Fantastic!”
Reviewed 26 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

We're all really pleased we decided to book Tranquility Farmhouse on our return to Gozo, rather than return to the previous farmhouse we stayed in. I read other reviews which gave a very poisitive impression. Peter & Toni Ann own the property and live across the road, they are both really nice people who cannot do enough to help you enjoy your stay, yet they do not interfere unnecessarily. The property is lovely and situated in Nadur which is only a 10 minute drive from Mgarr port. Nadur is a really nice town situated on a hill in Gozo, it has a few restaurants, bars and shops within walking distance. Although not many places seem to be open for lunch, none that we could find anyway. However we usually took our hired jeep to places such as Victoria. There is nothing I can fault with the farmhouse, or with Peter and Toni Ann. I would highly recommend this property to anyone wanting to stay on Gozo. We had a fabulous holiday and used the pool often to cool down after a little bit of sun worshipping. I will be writing reviews for the places we visited so if you would like to find out more about holidaying in Gozo, take a look at my other reviews.

Liked best: The property and pool.
Liked least: Nothing, if I was really critical it would be nice to have a dishwasher but as water is expensive on Gozo I understand why this isn't supplied.

“Excellent!”
Reviewed 16 September 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We spent a brilliant week at Tranquility Farmhouse and would not hesitate to recommend it.

Owners Peter and Toni Ann, who live across the street, were super helpful and it felt more like borrowing a friend's place than a commercial rental. Spotlessly clean, great pool, and tons of space inside. The lovely breeze through the house (more a townhouse than a farmhouse in UK terms) meant that the 30+ degrees heat of late August was not an issue for us, and anyway the pool was great to cool down in. Nadur is a quiet town, but we were lucky enough to coincide with the annual wine festival, which added some busier evenings, and overall a thoroughly relaxing holiday. We hope to return soon!
