There is nothing pretentious about Antica Trattoria Pinelli. If you blink as you pass through Montelungo, you could easily miss it. But once inside, you will find a welcoming family restaurant run by Giacomo and Laura Pinelli.
Four of us stuffed ourselves and spent less than €100. The mixed antipasti were typical of the region, the pasta featured local porcini mushrooms, which were very fresh, but I chose the potato stuffed ravioli with duck ragu. Comfort food personified!
For the 'secondo' I ate wild boar with polenta, while chicken and beautifully fried porcini were enjoyed by my companions. And as 'last man standing' I finished up with home-made chocolate cake served with mascarpone cream.
The house red wine was excellent, the atmosphere friendly, great service, excellent quality and outstanding value for money!
Giacomo speaks excellent English and went out of his way to make our vegetarian friend welcome, and carefully explained what she could and could not eat from the menu - she was very happy with the selection on offer.
