The one negative element of the apartment is what I will start with because it was our first experience upon arrival. It wasn’t a deal break for us and I only mention it so that you are aware. The owners provided excellent directions as to how to find the accommodation, which was pretty straightforward, given that Champoluc is not a big sprawling conurbation. However we did arrive at the dead of night and although there had been no snow falling for a couple of days, there was plenty of snow and ice on the lane, leading from the main road to the building. We could not get up the hill in our hire car despite making several attempts. We had snow chains but given the hour, after a long journey, we couldn’t attach them. What this meant was that we had to carry our cases up the slope on foot which gave us an unexpected workout from the get go. Across on the other side of the main road is a large car park which is free and we instead chose to park there for the remainder of our stay. Not quite so convenient but really not an issue.
The apartment is comfortable, well equipped and ideal for a couple. There is the opportunity to have more people staying as there is a sofa bed in the sitting room. However given that there is only a finite amount of hot water, this might not be a smart move. There’s plenty for two people though. The kitchen has everything that you require including a very efficient induction hob. If you plan to make coffee in the morning there, using the stove top espresso maker, you will need to use the metal plate beneath it or like us, spend half an hour getting thirsty and exasperated in equal measures.
Something else which you might like to know is that there is no Wi-Fi although this can be accessed in many bars and restaurants close at hand. If you like to relax in the evening in front of the TV, there is one, as well as a DVD player there too and unless your Italian is up to scratchio, you might want to bring some films of your own with you in a language of your own choosing, to enjoy.
I am not sure what else to say really, this is a great place to stay, to enjoy what Champoluc has to offer. You are close to the ski lifts as well as a number of shops including the super market, restaurants and bars. You will get fit walking up the slope to the apartment block and then climbing the stairs to the lodgings, but surely that’s part and parcel of being in the mountains, isn’t it?
