My visit to the Mountain Zebra National Park was great. This is one of the most underrated National Parks in South Africa with some very unique scenery. Good facilities and game made this a memorable visit.

We stayed here for a night in early July 2017. The park is small and very beautiful in that special Karoo sort of way. We did not see much game (two kudu only) as we were not really looking and were en route between Johannesburg and Grahamstown, but a few days here could be a very pleasant experience. We did not use the restaurant (now open from 11am to 8 pm - strangely not for breakfast; I got the impression that it is all rather erratic as only the Eastern Cape can be). There is a good Spar in Cradock where you can stock up wirth fresh meat and veggies. The 2 bed chalet was very cosy, good beds, linen (and 'winter' sheets - I had not seen these since 1979!), good bedside lighting (but very dim in lounge) reasonably well equipped kitchen and comfortable armchairs (stuffing starting to escape from some cushions, however), and a lovely fireplace in which we burned 3 packets of wood (buy this in Cradock - the park shop is overpriced). Good braai on the terrace facing into the pretty valley. Friendly management. We did not do the cheetah tracking which we were told by another guest was awesome. Next time! Well worthwhile stopping over.
If one the highlights of your stay in our wonderful Sanparks is to light a fire at sunset, have a sundowner and braai and to enjoy the early evening around the fire- stay away of the Mountain Zebra National Park.
Friday 30 June 2017 (the day the schools close for the winter holidays) no wood – no charcoal available or in stock in the shop at the Mountain Zebra Mountain Park. It is order sir….. Sorry.
Thank you to the incompetent stock controller of the Mountain Zebra Mountain Park for completely spoiling the 2nd and last day of otherwise a very pleasant stay in the Park.
We loved visiting this park for two days. We camped at the rest camp and the facilities were great. The scenery in this park is just beautiful.
I took a solo 4x4 drive around the park. The road is good but better with a 4x4. The route is quite scenic with beautiful cliffs and mountains. I saw a lot of zebra close by, other animals were quite far in the distance. It's a must see for the landscape but don't expect to see much.
A great drive yourself safari/game drive.
Great value day out. Lots to see. We saw black backed Jackles devouring a recent kill as well as cheetahs and lots of antelope/zebra. Lots of birds in the upper parts.
Good roads throughout
Very welcoming staff
