good value and highly recommended

My wife and i included Cradock on our tour of E. Cape in order to visit Schreiner Museum and Cape Mountain Zebra national Park. Both are worth a visit but do the park in early morning to see the animals.
Heritage House is well situated on a quiet treed street with some excellent examples of Victorian architecture. Is also walking distance to museum. The house itself is very large but we slept in a rondavel in the huge garden.
Bed is fine and shower worked well. The host Meyrick is welcoming and organised. He prepares an excellent breakfast that includes some home-made vegetarian options for those that want a change from bacon and eggs.
House does not have wi-fi but one can use host's ADSL line each day for an hour or so. Cradock has well preserved Victorian hotel that offers traditional Karoo buffet. 3 courses is R150 or unlimited main course is R95. But go early, 6-6.30pm in order to get the best cuts of meat. Meyrick can recommend a couple of other good restaurants.
The large garden has good bird life and a smallish clean swimming pool. A mystery to me is that in March the garden vines were loaded with wonderful sweet table grapes that are left to rot along with numerous pomegranates from a large tree. Why not pick and serve these at breakfast?

The accommodation was comfortable, but there were a few small things that would have really improved it. The outside door did not lock with the key or latch, the mattress was not good and the shower head sprayed a "jet" of water. However Merricks hospitality and friendliness was great

We booked last minute and got a great welcome from the owner, Merrick. The Heritage House is rather different than Tuishuis (the top-rated B&B in Cradock). Heritage is a big old private property with rooms facing the pool and large and very pretty garden which rambles out to the Fish River. Very comfortable and nicely appointed rooms both in the house and the 2 garden cottages. There's a lovely dining room and excellent breakfast. Merrick will gladly give you a tour of the house (which has been added on to from the 1850's) and the garden. It's a top-notch B&B.

We didn't stay at Tuishuis, but had dinner at the adjoining restaurant (which was excellent) and saw the rooms. The Tuishuis B&B part is charming in a different way: a row of picturesque old townhouses has been turned into comfortable rooms full of history. Being on a street, you get more of a sense of the town, but none of the peaceful garden at Heritage. Both places of high standard. We stayed Nov 8, 2012.

Room tip: I had a garden room near the pool: very quiet and comfortable. Rooms inside the house are easier access to dining room and parking (which my elderly mother found useful)

We had not booked our stay in Cradock in advance so we got lucky to get the last room at the Heritage B&B. In the morning the hosts apologized because they gave us the closest bedroom to the breakfast room (it was the only one free), but frankly I didn't notice. We had no trouble in sleeping until pretty late, and we didn't hear any noise. The Heritage House is a very nice and cozy building, with very charming rooms. And clean of course!
The garden is big and well-cared, a green oasis. The hosts are very welcoming, chatting with them after breakfast was a nice pause during our tour of the Karoo. I would definitely come back.

And I cannot recommend enough the breakfast!

We stayed at this B & B for the duration of the Fish River canoe marathon with our little dog.
We were made very welcome and the breakfasts were great. The cottage we stayed in was clean, spacious and we could keep our little dog with us.The gardens are large and very pretty.
This is definitely the place to stay in Cradock.

We had a lovely stay at Heritage House. The hosts are very friendly and welcoming, the rooms are warm and cosy - it was very cold when we were there - and the breakfast is great. The dogs are also fabulous!

The hosts were very accommodating: they made a plan to accommodate our son as he did not want to sleep in a room by himself, so they added a bed into our room; and we had an extra person for breakfast unexpectedly, and it was not a problem.
