Annette's accommodation is in an elevated position overlooking the beautiful Laborie bay....it really is the perfect spot to chill out! Laborie is a friendly place to stay and we loved just sitting on the balcony soaking up the view and watching the hummingbirds and bullfinches around us! It was nice to open the shutters right up so you could enjoy the view from the bed! There were alot of mosquitos when we first arrived but opening the shutters seemed to get rid of some of them. Make sure you take insect repellent if you are susceptible to bites :-)
There is a secluded pebbly beach a short walk from the accommodation, which we had to ourselves most of the time! We were really glad we ventured to Annette's in Laborie during our trip! The accommodation and area has a nice vibe to it so make sure you check it out if you're visiting St Lucia!
Comfortable apartment, great people and easy communication with Annette.
Annette was not in St. Lucia when we were there but Matt (Annette's grandson) met us at the airport with someone to drive us to the apartment. Jace met us at the top of the hill and he and Matt got us settled in. Since it was Sunday late afternoon not much was open. Jace purchased a few things and had it waiting in the fridge for us.
We decided to go into town for dinner as it was starting to get dark. A fairly steep hill to go down and to climb back up so if you have leg issues this may be difficult.
Had dinner at the Salt Rush cafe right down on the beach. it was really good and I recommend chatting with Wilson there. wonderful man and full of information about the area.
The apartment itself is more like a studio than a one bedroom as there are no walls between the kitchen and the bedroom (the pictures are accurate)
Everything we needed (except an egg lifter). The windows do not have screens but there is a netting over the bed. We found it quite warm so had the fan running which would move the netting and let the mosquitoes in while we slept. Maybe some extra pins to hold the netting closed? we found if we kept the shutters closed at night it cut the mosquitoes right down. but that got a bit hot and stuffy.
Wonderful little birds came to visit on the balcony and we gave them left over bread and fruit. (when you leave the apartment it is a good idea to close the shutters or the birds will be into your apartment) we also had visits on the balcony from some cute little lizards. (they would eat bananas)
it is the tropics so expect all manner of creepy crawlers and bugs. Also there are hens and roosters all over the place and these roosters can't tell time so start crowing at 3 am. we found with the shutters closed and some headphones or ear plugs we had no issue.
the bed was very comfortable. loved the shower room. Jace changed our bed and brought us new towels part way through the week. he also picked fruit from the trees and showed us how to make a very tasty tea with the leaves from the trees in the yard.
Matt cooked for us one night and it was a wonderful meal. So much food that we had the leftovers the next night!
The beach was beautiful right in front of the ball park. we saw some glass as we walked the beach (some smooth and some very sharp) but we never had an issue while swimming. the water was so warm.
Where to shop..get the bread at the bakery right in Laborie. Get ice cream either in the town or as you are heading back up to the apartment there is a little shop on the right that sells ice cream we stopped in there a number of times. we bought our beer and rum right in Laborie as we found it to be not much cheaper anywhere else. (you may have to pay a deposit for the beer bottles so keep your receipt to get that money back)
most nights you could hear music playing until late at night but it was not too loud and didn't cause any issue sleeping (might have been a problem down near Rudy John park where the music seemed to be coming from)
We had planned to do a few tours but in the end decided to just hang out in Laborie most of the time and relax.
We had a wonderful time chatting with Jace and Matt (and Wilson down in the town) Gillian and David who live in the house just below greenheart were so nice and and even picked us some limes from their garden. we had a very relaxing vacation.
We stayed at Greenheart the last week of February 2017. We have traveled extensively and refer to ourselves as "non-cruise and resort people". We love staying in small family owned villas near town. We prefer kitchen facilities as we like to cook our own meals. Greenheart was the perfect place for us. Very charming apartment beneath the owners quarters and next door to their son Mark and his family. We had already done most of our St Lucia sight seeing and snorkeling trips before we arrived in Laborie so we spent this week walking into town, buying fresh fish and lobster and swimming in the beautiful bays. Owners, Annette & Mirco, along with Mark, Tboy and Vavi made us feel like we were part of the family. Beautiful room with wifi, kitchen and of course, mosquito netting (a must). You will not find a more incredible view than from the porch at Greenheart.
Lovely peaceful holiday on this wonderful tropical Caribbean island. The scenery in St Lucia is stunning. We hired a car for the two weeks so we could fully explore and it was definately worth the cost.
Our apartment was delightful with terrific views over the bay from the generous balcony and was equipped with everything we needed.
Laborie is a fishing village with very friendly people and it is an easy walk down the hill from the apartment....not quite so easy coming back up as it is quite steep.
People live a very simple life here far away from the noise and sophistication of the north of the island and here you can experience the real Caribbean.
We found an excellent Indian restaurant at Gablewoods Mall next to Masseys supermarket and the food there is delicious and well priced. Good relaxing holiday.
My husband and I stayed at Greenheart Apartment for 10 days near the end of Jan.2017. Upon our arrival we were greeted by the owners, Annette & Mirco and their friends, Tiboy and Vava who helped us with our luggage. Annette introduced us to the property which is exactly how it appears online, basic and beautifully decorated (African inspired). In no time we felt welcomed and comfortable with our surroundings. We loved the peaceful and serene feeling that came over us when the sun set over Laborie Bay. The apartment is situated at the top of a sizable hill making it relatively challenging to navigate when going to and returning from the village but the view from our front balcony was awesome. In summary, we truly enjoyed our experience at Greenheart and would recommend it to anybody in search of an authentic holiday where you can sit and enjoy the people without the hustle bustle of a tourist resort. Laborie truly is a special place and the people who live there are exceptional. Special thanks to Annette and Mirco for making us feel like family. We miss you already and can't wait to return.
