My partner and I came to Shetland for the solitude and scenery, and after much deliberation we booked to stay at Pamela's cottage, just outside Scalloway.
Pamela met us at the cottage, having laid a fire and provided a helpful hamper full of essentials.
The cottage was cosy, warm and offered us all we were looking for. Information about the local area and takeaway menus etc., I wouldn't hesitate to come back on my next trip to Shetland!
Pamela was an excellent host and welcome kit got us off to a great start. Everything we needed was there. Scalloway is a great spot to explore the Shetland Islands. The bedroom was huge and gave us lots of room for suitcases & daypacks. Downstairs & kitchen was great. The view from this place is very nice and nearby our Shetland ponies. Got to visit Scalloway Castle - key at Scalloway Hotel and Scalloway Museum - thanks to Vera at Kiln Bar and Billy at the museum. Great story of Shetland bus at the Museum. Normally they are closed in October. Found Shetlanders very friendly and helpful. This location is great to tour Shetland Islands. Lerwick 3 kms away.
We are just back from a week spent in this gorgeous accommodation and won’t even consider looking elsewhere when we next go to Shetland.
The cottage is beautifully decorated and outfitted to a very high standard with the kind of soft fluffy towels and pristine white billowing bed linen you would expect from a posh boutique hotel. Your host, Pamela, has included thoughtful touches like a file full of things to do on Shetland, a walking pole, spare cagoules and even a hairdryer, not to mention the fresh flowers and welcome basket full of essentials. The kitchen is well equipped for you to cook your own meals and Lerwick has a Tesco and a Co op for you to get your supplies in.
The cottage is set up a hillside in the Tingwall valley just before Scalloway, the setting is very peaceful with gorgeous views down the valley and a seating area among the colourful flowers of Pamela’s beautiful garden. Despite its peaceful setting you can drive into Scalloway proper in a couple of minutes where there are a couple of well stocked local shops, a hotel and a guest house where you can get a bite to eat and a rather good Chinese takeaway. Also pay a visit to the local museum which is fascinating and includes a visit to Scalloway castle.
I’d like to finish by thanking Pamela for being a lovely host. From being in contact before our trip, for the welcome we received and for all the other lovely touches and chats we had, we appreciated it all.
Very well equipped homely cottage, the nice welcome pack very much appreciated.
We were made very welcome by Pamela and felt very much at home here.
Scalloway is an excellent base from which to explore Orkney.
Would very much like to return some day.
Very conveniently placed near to Scalloway where we could shop and have an evening meal if required.
Facilities in the cottage left nothing to be desired.
