We stayed for 2 nights March 23-25 2018. We reached late and was allotted room without offering any choice. The hotel's planning is such that in spite of having excellent location from where you can view Kanchanganga peak, most rooms do not offer good view as another unit block mars your view. In spite of earlier request for Kings bed we were allotted twin bedded room and joined the beds. We found that the beds were broken and propped up with wooden prop. Our request to front office was rudely turned down with statement rooms are allotted by system. After we showed the photographs of propped up bed and raised voices they thought of some action which was rather late when a bell boy was sent at 8.30 pm on our last day if we wanted to see another room. None of the front office staff or manager bothered to speak to us. We refused as we were checking out next day. Rooms are OK but have levels, need to be careful. Lacks professional approach. Food was OK.

Room Tip: Select higher rooms with view.

Like Gangtok, at Pelling too we’d to change our hotel due to change in dates. And just like we were delighted to have chosen The Hidden Forest at Gangtok, we were happy at Pelling to have opted for The Chumbi Mountain Resorts & Spa with its magnificent views and very comfortable accommodation.

Chumbi Mountain is a decently sized resort located in Upper Pelling. First thing that strikes you is that although it’s a big hotel, it is spread horizontally, with each unit not more than 2-3 floors tall, ensuring a very specious feel. As you enter, a winding road takes you among woods to the main building, where reception is located. This building also has big ground in front with their bar and spa on the opposite side. We were greeted very warmly with hot bowls of special Sikkimese tea. It was a perfect drink as temperatures had taken sudden dip due to weather changing cloudy.

Room that we had selected was a suite named Yuksom Suite. There are only 3 suite rooms, all of which are located on the 1st floor of the main building itself. Each suite (all corner rooms) has a big living room as you enter, with a sitting area (with TV) and a dining table. It still left enough space to accommodate an extra bed for my son. This room opens to Himalayan views from the opposite side with full glass windows. This room leads to the bedroom with attached bathroom. Both these being corner units, have excellent Himalayan views. Overall, this whole setup is very spacious, which perfectly worked for a family of four of ours with 2 kids. Although you will have to shell out more, I will highly recommend going for a suite if you are a family like ours.

Dining hall, along with their speciality Sikkimese restaurant, are in this building itself on lower levels. As occupancy was low on first day, we were asked to select from the buffet menu. Food was nice, but standard like Punjabi or Chinese, we missed local delicacies that we were enjoying so much. We would have loved to try their Sikkimese restaurant, which offers traditional 8-course meal, if management could have adjusted the pricing considering we had already paid for the meals. Anyways, we were here just for 2-nights, but this is one restaurant I would certainly like to try next time.

I would like to mention very attentive and helpful staff at Chumbi. Prabash from the F&B was always around during dinner and breakfast and took full care of our needs especially those of kids. He is very soft spoken with sense of hospitality and proactive attitude. We also had good time interacting with Hemant, manager at Chumbi. He has extensive knowledge of Sikkim history and it was amazing to know many a new things from him. There were many more who did their bit, so thanks to everyone at Chumbi for making our stay memorable.

Overall, an excellent place to be when you are in Pelling. It is spacious, aesthetically done with superb rooms and has a very pleasing staff. I definitely recommend it to fellow travellers.

Room Tip: Go for Suite room if you are a family with kids.

A great resort with spacious rooms, food and hospitality. The top floor has the best view of the Kanchenjunga Mountain and other snow peaked lesser known peaks. Breakfast and Dinner is included in the tariff. All the insides of the resort is tastefully decorated. You also have a 20 seater Conference room. The food quality, taste and quantity is one of the best in the region.

We stayed here for 3 nights in Feb 2018. After an unexpected thunder storm hit us about half way through our 5 hour road trip up to Pelling it turned into a 7 hour trip!
Once we arrived we were greeted by the staff with a very warm welcome. Thankfully as it was quite cold. There were fires on in the lobby and the place felt warm. Unfortunately that was the only time we felt warm in the common areas. It was very cold in the restaurant and as it wasn’t very busy I felt the management didn’t feel the need to heat the areas. We did request this and was able to spend one evening having dinner at Base Camp cafe with a lovely open fire. A pity not more of this was not offered. The rooms were fine and we were supplied with heaters and hot water bottles if required. It just meant that when evening came most guests went back to their rooms after dinner as it was the only warm place. The lobby was the only part of the hotel where you could get wifi also. A bit sad really as the hotel is really a beautiful place to be in Pelling. It would have been nice to mingle with the other guests a little. The views are amazing. The staff were lovely and very friendly. A it more effort from management and this place would be stunning.

we had booked this resort to enjoy our 2nd wedding anniversary in the beautiful town of pelling..
this resort is simply wonderful... i was amazed by the hospitality.. the services provided by them was great.. i loved it...

The resort is well built.. the best part about the resort is that we can get the view of the Mount. Kanchenjunga directly from our rooms itself.. (although we did not get the view because of bad weather)

the way they served the traditional Sikkimese dinner on Sunday was amazing.

Mr. Hemant Mukhia was exceptionally politely and guided me very well about the places of interest in and around pelling.. i was impressed by his behaviour..
Mr. Diwas was also very helpful.. He accompanied me and guided me very well for a small trek to Rabdentse Ruins.. He was courteous enough during the trek to explain me everything in details... i liked it..

last but not the least, the SPA was also good.. the way they did everything was great..

i would definately recommend everyone to stay in this resort only if you are planning a trip to PELLING...
