Okay, so here are the positives: 1) It seems to be a family-owned business with a lot of heart. 2) The water view from the restaurant is great. 3) Many locals were at the restaurant, so it had an authentic feel to it.
The negative that I can't get over: 1) They don't clean their shrimp. They are fried as is and they are not deveined. The intestines are left in the shrimp. I asked for a knife to devein them myself, but a worker told me that you are supposed to use the shrimp heads as a broom to devein them after ripping them apart down their backs with your fingernails. That wasn't a great method so I ended up scraping out their intestines using my fingernails and then wiping their intestines on my napkin. People from other tables approached me after the employee explained to me how to clean the shrimp for instructions on how to do it. If they are going to sell shrimp, they should clean them before serving them OR tell people who order that they come uncleaned.
It was a gross and unappetizing experience overall. Also, once we cleaned the shrimp ourselves, they didn't have much flavor. I felt especially bad for the mom who approached us who had to try to clean her hungry kids' shrimp in addition to her own--it takes a long time to devein one shrimp using shrimp heads and your fingernails.
I appreciate it for what it was, but I would not come back.
