we spent 3 nights at Bukela Game Lodge in a luxury safari tent, it was beautiful. Loved the outdoor shower and deck overlooking the valley.Everything was perfect, the staff are friendly and look after you like VIP's.Our ranger Janco was brilliant, very informative and funny. He did his utmost to ensure we had some good sightings we managed 4 out of 5 big five. This was the highlight of out holiday in South Africa and would highly recommend it, you won't be disappointed. Wish we'd booked for 4 nights.

The adventure really does begin as soon as you arrive to the main gate of the reserve. On the drive in through the reserve it is a couple of km's to the lodge and you can spot animal - we saw a giraffe grazing at the road side! Be sure to rent a jeep - we had a standard car and weren't sure if we would make it to the lodge at one point!
The welcome we received was wonderful, we were greeted with hot towels and a refreshing drink. the host explained to us all about the reserve and amenities. He escorted us to our "tent" (I say "tent" as it was far from one - it was quite luxurious!)
The tent included a seating area, complimentary mini bar, beautiful bathroom and outdoor shower.
The drives were unbeliveable - a wonderful experience. Our ranger Jonathon was so knowledgable and took real time and pleasure in explaining things to our group. He had a great instinct of where the animals would be - in that we never really were following them and always ended up in great locations to view them!
We opted to go for a night drive one evening and was a brilliant experience - I would recommend to anyone considering it.
The food was very good, some evenings a bit hit and miss (I think could be down to what chef is on).
I booked a massage treatment one of the days and I would highly recommend it - was truely relaxing.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a hot water issue in our accomadation one of the days and they fixed it very quickly.
The pool area was small but was perfect for us - there were only 8 people there when we were there. I would imagine in busier times it may not have enough space.
Overall it was a wonderful stay and would highly recommend it to people.

Thank you so much for the wonderful praises! It was such a pleasure reading about your experience at Bukela Game Lodge and the Amakhala Game Reserve.

Game drives are certainly one of the most exciting things about being at the lodge, and with guides like ours you are certain to learn a thing or two with their vast knowledge and experience. We are thrilled you enjoyed your time here and will certainly pass on your praises to the staff. We hope to see you again for another visit soon!

All the very best,
The Bailey family and Bukela team

The adventure starts by getting to the lodge!! If you think, your small car won't make it, do not worry! It will. Just like our rented little Renault did... You may already spot a few animals on the way.

The Bukela Lodge is located at the end of a beautiful valley. It offers a great view. You will be greated with a warm welcome and guided to your African styled house.
There are two Safari trips per day. Don't miss the morning Safari! Getting up at 5.15 am is worth the effort! You will see so many animals in the early morning hours and they are super active. Our ranger, Jonathan took 4-8 people on one tour. He is very experienced. We learned a lot about the animals and how to track them. He even found the Cheeta family. It was amazing!!

The entire game lodge area is huge (7.000 hectares). We went to new districts on every single ride. It is an impressive scenery. Besides the cool animals you get to watch, it was very important for us to see, how respectful everyone treats nature.

Bukela Lodge offers full service including all meals. Their breakfast and four course dinner menue was always fantastic. Service people are super friendly.

To sum it up: This lodge isn't anything like the "Zoo Gamedrives" you might get trapped in somewhere else. Pick it if you are feeling good about nature and if you want to have a real safari adventure (T&A)

Spent 3 nights here and loved every single moment, the welcome was wonderful the lodge is so beautiful with a wonderful infinity pool, our cottage was perfect beautifully set up. There is nothing I could find fault with. The game drives were wonderful with a very good ranger. I was reduced to tears after we found ourselves surrounded by a herd of elephants with the matriarch using her trunk to check me out and blow down it. Our last night the staff danced and sang for us. All in all I cannot recommend this place highly enough .go you won’t be disappointed.

The first thing I would say when visiting any game lodge reserve park is make sure you hire a four wheel drive vehicle because getting there from the main road can be several kms on unmade roads. We did manage to get to our destination and it was worth the drive with care. Bukela Game lodge is very private and small with lodges and luxury tents first class. It was all inclusive and the game drives were private and our ranger Janqi was brilliant and professional. We saw all the animals on our wish list and more. Only the lepoard was illusive to us. Security and safety is paramount to ensure no guest comes to any harm. Food was OK and adequate but lacked quanity and taste, maybe this was due to small kitchens not too sure. Poolside facilities were inadequate for the number of guests and sunbeds could have been more comfortable and pool towels a little thicker. Overall though we thoroughly enjoyed out stay. Many thanks to all staff for making our stay memorable.
