The accommodation was great, food was great, the people were great, the game drives were amazing and our guide was great as well as we found all of the big five and saw an incredible lion kill....
Highly recommend this place with two game drives and one night.

I can only write something about the day trip, which started at Reed Valley.
We were four people and our fantastic guide Hamish. He was fantastic.
We started the day with a lunch at Bush Lodge Reed Valley. Great start.
After it, we drove the next 2h trough the park and saw giraffes, rhinos and so on.
The Amakhala itself is beautiful. We further made a small boot trip and proceeded with our tour.
It was a lovely day, we can be recommended to book.

came for a day safari, arrived around 10.30 am and sharing our vehicle with an Australian couple. Our ranger Diyan, first showed us some puff adders in a pit and then we headed off. we saw lots of buck, warthogs, giraffe, zebras, also many interesting birds. Diyan stopped also to show us plants, trees and he was both very knowledgeable and interesting.
we then had lunch at bush lodge and headed down to the Bushmans river for a river cruise with Lucky, whose 'eagle eyes' spotted many birds and a monitor lizard. a very enjoyable hour, with a glass of wine, up and down the river.
Back in the vehicle Diyan found the rhinos and it afforded a great viewing and photos.
Then elephant, jackals and kudu etc. and then we started heading back.
Diyan said he would try to find lion, and we had THE most wonderful lion viewing of the lioness hunting, meeting and greeting her mate, more excitement with a warthog and the male lion. by this time it was getting quite dark and we had a very speedy ride back to the lodge, an exciting end to a very exciting day. thank you Diyan x

We came to Amakhala (Reed Valley Inn) as part of our itinerary, planned out by our vacationing lodge we were staying at in the Addo National Park area. Our Amakhala game reserve guided drive was provided by Reed Valley Inn and it was booked as a day trip. We spent the entire day there and were not disappointed. It was a short drive from Addo, just under an hour. We were warmly greeted by Bodin, and his faithful dogs. We waited as another couple arrived and then headed out with our game driver. We first went to an area to view eland, zebra, wart hogs, impalas, and many many giraffes. We were up close and personal. After viewing game for a couple of hours, we headed to Amakhala's main lodge and were served a delicious lunch. Served with your choice of beverage. After relaxing at the lodge, and restrooms breaks, we headed out again for more game viewing. This time we went to a different location. We went towards the river valley. The vistas were absolutely beautiful. We started at the top of the "crater" eventually making our way down to the valley floor. We kept our eyes open for a female lion, as we heard from other drivers that she was in our vicinity. We found the lion, some rhinos, buffalo, wildebeests, and much more. We were not disappointed. We stopped again to have snacks and just enjoy the views. It didn't get any better.
We occasionally met up with anti-poaching teams, patrolling the area, and other reserve drivers sharing information as to where the animals may be.
As it was "winter", we did find it cooler and while driving in the open jeep, we were a bit chilled. Dress warmly.

Recently, I stayed at Reed Valley. And I'll admit, I was skeptical after reading a "very disappointing" comment on tripadvisor. Boy was I wrong! It is absolutely beautiful. The garden has been newly landscaped and the lodging is clearly newly painted with re-varnished floors. It was super clean and the staff, especially Stacy, are really friendly and helpful. The game drives with Andrew were spectacular and the meals we had up at 5 star Bush lodge were just that: 5 star! Granted, it is located near a road so there is some traffic noise, but it didn't bother us. And you're out on the reserve for most of the day anyway.
