Yes, it is a very small town, but it is as beautiful as it an be. Enjoy the small cafeterias, climb the mountain to see the church and view from above or even take a hike to the forest with the wonderful fresh air. I can't tell what is it exactly - but I found something incredibly charming about this place.

If you only have time to visit one town/village in the Black Forest, Gengenbach is an excellent option. With its picturesque buildings and lane ways, charming hotels and restaurants and pretty setting, it's easy to see why Gengenbach is a favourite of both local and foreign tourists. Absolutely worth a couple hours or so of just wandering around. I lived in the area as a teenager...and would recommend driving through the area on some of the smaller roads to see some other very pretty villages and scenery as you drive by. You can also hop over to the Schwarzwaldhochstrasse (Black Forest High Road) and enjoy one of Europe's most thrilling and scenic drives...it'll take you up to Baden Baden, another lovely town. Enjoy your visit!

This is the perfectly picturesque medieval town that is a must as a quick stop on your tour of the Black Forrest area. The town is strikingly beautiful with an incredibly adorned church. We even saw two storks nesting a top a roof across the town hall. Stop here for a scenic lunch or dinner.

If you are looking for a good example of cute German village just by the Black Forest have a go a Gengenbach. Once you have parked, cross the level crossing and that´s it. Then you´ve just entered this nice village, which is as you´ve probably expected: impeccable clean streets, beautiful local houses and a clear German taste, although the neoclassical Town Hall that presides it all, reminded me somehow of a certain French touch. One of the main attractives of Gengenbach is that the city is beautiful as a whole, not being one of those places where there is a concrete point of interest and the rest is tasteless. This is why Gengenbach is right for a leisurely visit, strolling around its streets, taking some photos and enjoying some local food.
