The farm is on Napier mountain and when you arrive, you think you have reached the top (although you have not)! There are stunning views over the Aghullas plain and peace and tranquility. It is part of a fynbos conservancy and the owner, Stephen is chairman of the conservancy and also the local Botanical Society.
He and his wife have transformed the property from a forest of invasive aliens to a thriving fynbos mountainside - and are still busy with the endeavour. Stephen is very knowledgable about fynbos and will happily take you for a walk and help you learn, whatever your level of knowledge about fynbos.
We stayed in Erica (see tip for good room) which is a cosy free-standing thatched cottage with a kitchenette/living area combined, double bedroom and bathroom (with a huge shower). The bedroom has a fireplace which was very welcome as the nights we stayed were very cold. Plenty of warm bedding and electric blanket to keep you cosy while you sleep.
It is fully kitted for self-catering - a fabulous braai outside, inside a 2-plate gas hob, microwave, fridge, toaster, kettle & sink. If you don't feel like cooking there are a several restaurants in Napier, just 2.4 km down the hill.
Tea, coffee & milk provided and an honesty bar.
No TV, but there is mobile phone and also free wifi access if you are addicted.
There are bee hives on the farm and you can buy delicious fynbos honey - unpasterised & unfiltered.
Activities - birdwatching (on the farm or in surrounding Overberg area) walking, chilling. There is also wildlife to be seen if you keep your eyes open - we saw Angulate tortoise, Cape hare, Grysbok and a variety of lizards and birds on the farm.
A good base for exploring this part of the Overberg with Aghullas, Arniston, Stanford, Caledon all in easy reach.
If you need to be in the Napier / Bredasdorp area and need a base, this is a good choice. And great if you just want to get away.
