“A perfect place to chill out in the hills of County Mayo”
Reviewed 14 September 2016 for a stay in May 2016

Don't expect mobile phone reception or TV and don't expect the Ritz. Pat Mors Cottage is a traditional cottage in the hills above the hamlet of Finny and overlooking Lough Nafooey. It is comfortable, cosy and a perfect place to either chill out in or use as a base from which to explore Joyce's Country in Mayo or the Connemara of County Galway.
The view from the kitchen sink makes washing the dishes a pleasure and its better than using a dishwasher. There is a great wood burning heater and plenty of wood for that rainy day and there is plenty of wildlife to spot just outside [have patience, your camera ready and look around]. A walk up onto the hills behind the cottage will lead to the discovery of spectacular views of 3 lakes- try it at sunrise. The location is ultra, ultra quiet. The cottage, whilst lovingly restored to modern needs, retains the atmosphere of a traditional abode - there's the flagstone floor in the lounge area and a slab of slate for a dining table and the laundry is in what was the old pig pen [true!]. There are pubs and mobile phone reception not far away, if you need it and the post office/store in Finny is handy for the small necessities of life. Minimarkets at Clonbur and Cong give access to more food suplies, so having a car is an advantage. In my opinion the stairs up to 2 of the bedrooms and size of the shower cubicle would not suit the disabled.
The friendly owner, William, lives nearby and can provide advice on the local area, hill walking and even sea kayaking. I've been renting Pat Mors for my annual holidays in Ireland for many years and I keep coming back, because it gets under your skin. Check out the cottage's facilities and the photos at the Pat Mors web site.

“Our yearly retreat”
Reviewed 19 August 2016 for a stay in July 2016

We staid at Pat Mors Cottage the first time in 2007 and since then returned every year! It became our yearly retreat to recover from everyday life. Pat Mors is the most beautiful cottage we have seen in Ireland. It has been renovated in a traditional Irish way but offers all amenities we are used to in modern times. Host William is fantastic and wants his guests to feel comfortable and happy during their stay. Lough Nafooey valley is of breathtaking beauty and hiking in the nearby mountains and kayaking on the lake is a pure bliss! While being situated away from the crowded tourist routes, the cottage is located central enough to reach all famous Connemara attractions in driving distance, e.g. Connemara National Park, Kylemore Abbey, Wild Atlantic Way, Killary Harbour/ Leenane, Clifden, Cleggan, Omey Island, Maam Valley, Lough Inagh, Roundstone, Renvyle Peninsula. Whether you are looking for a quiet, relaxing holiday, a varied enjoyable family holiday with lots to see for the kids or a touring holiday in Clare, Galway and Mayo – Pat Mors Cottage is the place to be! We are always sad when we have to leave again….

“Heaven on earth!”

We have stayed many times at Pat Mor's Cottage, and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for Peace, Tranquility, Comfort, Scenery and hospitality of the Owner, who has thought of everything to make one enjoy a Holiday in this beautiful Cottage. The Location and Scenery were first class. Very close by was the Post Office, with Petrol and provisions, and nearest Supermarket, Clonbur not too far away. Check out Burke's Bar and Restaurant for a great meal. Ideal for anyone wishing to escape from the rat race.
