“Great holiday, location and apartment”
Reviewed 7 August 2016 for a stay in July 2016

The apartment is situated in a quiet location but not too far from anything you might need. The area is busy enough but not overcrowded with a good mix of restaurants bars and nightlife. The prices in Sabanillas itself are very reasonable. The port is a bit more expensive but not prohibitive.

The apartment itself is well presented with everything you could need for a self catering holiday. The furnishings were all of a good standard. The beds were comfy and the bathrooms clean and functional. The apartment complex was quiet enough but not empty. The pool was brilliant with enough sun loungers and quiet enough to enjoy a siesta if needed. We didn't find the communal BBQ but to be honest we didn't miss it as the kitchen was well equipped and more convenient.

There are plenty of beach bars and of the two on Duquesa beach I'd recommend Malibu as the beer was better and a lot cheaper. In the port there are a good selection of bars and restaurants but they're all geared towards tourists and their budget.

If you take a short walk past the port along the beach you'll reach Sabanillas which is a bit more inhabited by locals. The beach BBQ'd Sea Bream we had in Bar Playa (One of the first as you walk into the town on the beach) was some of the best we've sampled.
By far the best dining experience we had was at Cerveceria Cruz Blanca. The mussels were exquisite and the tapas at 1.50€ were brilliant. We had a feast for four with plenty of wine for a measly €70. They even had some belgian beers if you get bored of all that lager!

For things to do I'd recommend el Castillo de Castellar which had amazing views of a reservoir and a beautiful small village at its heart. Gibraltar is 30 mins away and worth a visit if just to see the view from the rock. We parked the hire car in Spain and caught a bus into town as the queues getting back out can be lengthy.

All in all it was a great holiday and we wouldn't hesitate to go back again. Also kudos to Simon the owner who was extremely helpful and very accommodating.
