Spent 10 days here , enjoyed every minute it it. The complex is immaculately maintained, the gardens are beautiful the pools fantastic. Plenty of room even for peak season. Gated car park . Walked in to the port a few times but it did just get to hot in the end due to the heatwave. The apartment views are stunning, we used to just sit on the balcony and take it all in . Nice comfy beds , nice bright and airy rooms , air con for when it’s required. We will return again ,also the owner was extremely helpful and friendly throughout the process. Till next time x
We were a party of three and we enjoyed a wonderful week at Helene's lovely apartment at balcones los hidalgos just above Puerto Duquesa.
The 2 bed 2 bathroom apartment is well located within the development and provides a dining terrace and a roof top sun bathing terrace.
The apartment is light and airy and has reasonably sized rooms. English TV is provided although we didn't use that at all.
The beds are comfortable.
The only (very minor) criticism of the apartment is that it could do with a day of diy/tlc to mend the odds and sods that need it. It would also be helpful for an inventory check to be carried out to ensure sufficient equipment. Mugs and glasses were lacking a little and the roof sunbeds numbered only two, one of which has perished in the sunshine. None of this detracted from our enjoyment.
The development is well kept, quiet and friendly. The pool and pool surround is great with sunbeds and thatched parasols providing shade. Plenty of parking.
The development Is elevated above Duquesa which is about a 20 minute down hill walk away. There is a great choice of restaurants and, in July at least, the port is lively in the evenings. The uphill walk back can be a chore after a heavy meal but is a good way to walk it off! Taxis are available for less than €10.
There is an Eroski supermarket at the entrance to los hidalgos, on the main n340/a7. Again walking distance.
We had a car due to the return airport journey but, other than for that, it isn't needed.
I may also add that Helene's communication is both courteous and very prompt.
Would we stay again? Yes, as it is a lovely apartment in a great location.
Thank you, Helene!
The location was lovely and the beaches are so quiet. Apartment was lovely, plenty of room, clean and tidy and the roof terrace is perfect for sun bathing in private and the view are more or less 360. What a great find. Not that far from the apartment to the beach and supermarket at the bottom of the hill, the hill might seem a little hard on the first day but it is well worth it when you get to the top! Lots of restaurants.
Now where do I start with the lovely lady who owns this Fab apartment, Helene was so lovely, very helpful nothing is too much trouble, so quick to respond to any questions we had. I only wish we could have stayed longer. We will come back I am sure. Would we recommend absolutely. If you are thinking of coming to this area then you won't be dissapointed with anything.
You don't have to drive as there is a service bus that stops on either side of the main road when you get to the bottom of the hill from the apartment, if you want to go to Estepona etc and we went to Gibralta for the day which is not that far.
Thank you Helene for a great holiday, I wish every owner was like you.
Stayed fof 8 nights in January.
Very nice apartment with great views over the sea, up the coast towards Estepona and back to the mountains inland. The view to the south is a little spoilt by some very unforgiving development on the hill tops just to the south. The apartment had everything you needed - two terraces including a wonderful roof terrace with built in barbeque which worked very well. Living room was roomy with comfortable furniture. Good WiFi, TV had the basic Uk channels. Bedrooms were spacious with comfortable beds, bathrooms a bit tight for space but adequate. Kitchen was large with everything you would need for cooking, laundry, etc. Not a lot of downside really - one thing that was a little annoying was the height of the windows & balcony walls off the ground - meant that you really had to stand to see the view, esp from inside where we spent more time given it was in winter. Not a big problem really. The Hidalgos complex in which the apartment block is situated is pleasant and well maintained with pool and some surrounding greenery.
For visiting in the cooler months the area south of Duquesa has some long stretches of beach that are great for walking and relatively undeveloped. There are lots of trails up the hills behind - would recommend the loop walk up the valley behind Caceres (beautiful white Andalucian town) to the Sierra Crestellina - start from the trail info board in Caceres just across the road from Laura Bar/restaurant - this is just one of lots of options for all levels of fitness. Didn't find Duquesa/Sabinillas that inspiring (at least not in the winter time) but the attractive town of Estepona is only a short drive away and a visit to Gibralter just down the road is always interesting. Cadiz/Jerez are well worth a visit and reachable for a day trip - toll free motorway all the way.
Overall would recommend the apartment as a good base for exploring the area.
From the moment we booked this apartment, for my 30th birthday and wedding anniversary celebrations, Helene has been fantastic. The apartment was clean and comfortable, the views were outstanding. The private roof terrace was a perfect quiet place to catch some rays.We loved our stay here.
