My husband and I stayed for eight weeks (Apr-Jun 2016), and we enjoyed every single minute. The property is a comfortable and well-equipped holiday home with secure off-road parking and a completely dog-proof garden. Our two dogs loved being in the front garden, which has a lawn, a patio and a gravelled drive; an additional - and useful - garden is at a lower level and includes a barbecue and patio. When we weren't exploring the area, we spent day-light hours in the large kitchen and adjoining terrace, and our evenings in the comfortable sitting room.
Quillan is a delightful small town in the Aude Valley. Whilst the property is in a quiet residential area, it's only a short walk to the town centre with shops, restaurants, cafes and a twice-weekly market. A boulangerie 400 steps from the front gate was very handy! On the outskirts of Quillan is a large supermarket ... and an adjacent English lending library. [Quillan also has a cinema which puts on an English film once a week.]
During our stay we visited many Cathar sites, all within easy driving distance. Carcassonne in particular was impressive, but so too were the isolated castles and abbeys dotted around the area. The countryside is spectacular, and suits everything from white-water rafting to rambling. Quillan has a bus/railway station, but I would strongly recommend having a car.
Our friendly and helpful host was well-nigh instantly available by e-mail and telephone. We had the good fortune to meet her at the end of our stay.
