“Pretty and clean beach, actually closed ”

Spiaggia Pineta del Gelsomineto
Reviewed 1 May 2018 via mobile

The official road down to the campsite and beach is officially closed. But: driving the SS115 in the direction of avola you can park in a small road to your right after passing the river. By feet you can walk down to the beach by taking the small trail through the bushes which undergoes the ss115

Sold as a must seen, this beach is pretty common. Note that there is no obvious way to get there. Local car park is nicely overpriced so you'll park local way in a remote back road and walk you way there. There are nocer beaches around

We went to this beach twice during our stay in Cassibile-Siracusa area. The water is clear and clean. You can hike up the cliff and take amazing pictures. Pack umbrella, towels, food, and drink. There is a small bar, but I'm not sure if it has many options. Go prepared.

Sicily isn't a destination where I'd rank the beaches as best in the world (and we haven't visited all of them so maybe that's unfair) but so far we haven't been that impressed. In saying that, this one is pretty good and worth a mention. It's a smallish, pretty inlet, backed with pine-trees for some well-needed shade. Bump your car carefully down the narrow road and pay the €15 for the day's parking! There are some facilities but best to bring your own lunch and umbrellas. We visited a few years ago at the beg of September, and it was uncrowded, clean and inviting. This year we visited in August and it was packed. We managed to find an inch of sand and made camp. The sea is clean, warm and safe for children. The sand soft, and backed with large pebbles at the shore. However, the second time we visited on this trip, it was a surfers delight. Big, crashing waves and little space to set up. We still had fun though and would return.
