The Byre is a large holiday rental that could easily accommodate 2 families of 4.
Plenty of space and the upstairs studio room was great for the children to play in. Plenty of board games to keep them busy.
It's clean and comfortable.
The location is very rural which gives you the most amazing scenery and at night if the skies are clear the night sky is absolute breathtaking. These are a real bonus but it does mean that you are well away from local amenities such as shops, pub etc. There is a small local shop about 4 miles away but the supermarket is a good drive away in Dumfries.
We didn't see anyone for the time we were there, so if you want to cut off from the world it's ideal.
The games room was in an out building which had been taken over by the local swallows so not ideal for the children to play in at that time of the year but it didn't really bother us as we we were out ever day anyway.
We chose this location to be near family in Dumfries, Scotland. It is a working organic farm, mainly sheep but some cows. The cottage is large and comfortable. Beautiful kitchen, dining, sitting room combo with a coal burning stove as well as a master suite with a disabled accessible bathroom and another large bedroom with a queen and two twin beds and an additional bathroom on the ground level and then upstairs a really bright, large attic sitting area and another en suite bedroom with two twin beds. There was an outdoor patio with table and chairs and a disabled access ramp to the French door entry. The views were pastoral all round to the surrounding hills and farm land. We were there at lambing season and the farming family let us help with the bottle feeding of the excess lambs and our teen kids were actually up at 5.30 am they were so keen to do this and learn about sheep from Zan. Zan and her family were very kind and patient with people and animals alike. She also baked a beautiful cake for us for our arrival and seeing how hard they work I know this was a sacrifice of her time. Two things you should know. This is not a remote location compared to some in Scotland but it is at the end of some one track farm roads. We were driving a large. Vehicle and are used to this kind of location but it might be nerve racking for some. There is WiFi in the farmhouse, which also does bed and breakfast, but it does not reach beyond the farm yard in front of the cottage but Zan opens the farmhouse conservatory and sitting room to anyone who wants to use WiFi. There was also a play area for children and hens wandering around and a friendly cat. All in all a lovely and for children a magical experience.
All in all it was a lovely experience
