James Braid designed golf course. Holes 1-9 go north with holes 10-18 returning to the clubhouse. Inward holes have more elevation changes. Not an easy golf course but fun to play. Cows and sheep are nearby but did not interfere with play at all. Electric current fences surround each green but are easily stepped over. Visitor green fee is GBP 68.
Excellent traditional golf course. Unspoilt natural contours with fantastic views across the water.
Beatiful condition with fast tricky greens.
Interesting to see all the greens protected by a small electric fence to prevent the freely roaming sheep from entering the greens. All adds to the experience and tradition of playing a James Brauid course and with my home course being a J B design nice wee reduction on the green fee.
While is quite far north if you are within any reasonable travel distance from Brora would highly recommend a visit or get a group of friends together and have an outing up there as also Golspie, Dornoch and Tain nearby.
Brora is a little fishing village with stunning view across the North sea heading out to Norway. This was my second time playing in the Brora 5 Day Open after being invited the first year by friends who have been going for over 12 years, the course is something that gets under your skin, you know you should score better but there just that little something stopping you from doing it, its always been in fabulous conditions and greens any course in Britain would be delighted to have. Tom Watson described it as one of his favourite links course and returns whenever he is in the area. The 5 day open is a friendly competition but one everyone there wants to do well in, people are helpful golf club are very organised and you can see its a well oiled machine.
Wonderful round of golf with stunning scenery and curious sheep and cows. Stayed in the Links Apartments close by and used the gym and pool at Royal Marine Hotel close by. Well worth a visit.
We visited Scotland recently, playing 7 different courses. We mentioned to our caddies at Royal Aberdeen that we'd be playing Brora. Their comment was that we'd get to experience true, Scottish links golf. They were correct.
As with many courses in the UK there is no driving range, only nets to hit a few warmup shots. You just need to get over that. It's not really that big of a deal when you realize it's typical for the region.
Brora offers a view of the water from nearly every hole. You don't get that even at Pebble Beach. On a sunny day it's simply spectacular. You'll notice online that there are electric fences around every green. That's to keep the sheep and cows off of the greens. You may find the cows down on the beach, which is quite a sight. The sheep will offer their criticism of your shots from time to time, baaaaad. ;-)
The people at Brora couldn't have been more welcoming. No stuffiness that you might find at some courses. They were genuinely happy to have us visit their facility.
Brora is pure golf. Soak it in.
A superb links course and always in mint condition, one of James Braids finest designs. Changes with weather conditions every day. Very friendly club, good pro shop, Food in clubhouse is excellent as are very friendly bsr staff.
I read about another reviewer allegedly losing balls on the fairways !! Never experienced that in 30 years!
