Description: For more than 400 years, an Inn or Tavern has stood on the banks of the river Stour where the Tickled Trout now stands. The Tickled Trout is typical of the distinctive Kentish architecture of the period and greets the visitor with a welcoming and unique 'olde world' charm. We strive to maintain this charm of oak beamed bars and open fires for our customers. Our well maintained gardens alondside the river Stour, provide the ideal setting for 'Al fresco' drinks and dining, with a superb choice from selective menus for which we are renowned.

My wife and I were well looked after by Nathan. We arrived without a reservation on 29th July, but he managed to fit us in at a nice table and gave us attentive service throughout. We each had paella (marinara and mista). They were a bit on the pricey side but the quality was excellent. The ambiance is good. The Trout Pout local ale was very good.

Long user of the Trout having lived locally for years. (I actually deleted my previous review from September last year which praised the pub after we visited and saw the new menu this year...still recovering.)

The food at the trout has always been great and reasonable. Alongside beers and service too. Which begs the question...

...who on earth priced the new menu?!

Somehow, the place is now even more expensive than the gastropub down the road which offers hors d'oeuvres and has won food awards!

We took friends here after the new menu went up - and nearly died of embarrassment after seeing the new prices...

£17 for a Ham and Cheese Omelette is the cheapest main meal you'll find. Somehow Cod and Chips is £22 (daylight robbery!) AND A CHEESEBURGER IS TWENTY POUNDS!!

We settled for small plates in the end. The 'Spicy Chicken' coming in at £15/£22 (average pub price).

For a pub that's always been the village favourite with something for everyone we agreed though we just can't afford to eat here anymore! I'm sure we're not the only ones too given the fallout on social media. Especially when there's more reasonable (and better food) in several pubs down the road.

We're genuinely not sure if it's greed or just madness. Anyway I hope they come to their senses.

Hugely disappointing.
I took my inlaws who were visiting from Australia to this pretty country pub, it was my father in laws birthday and on past visits I have always had a pleasant delicious meal and experience but sadly not this time.
We ordered amongst other items,2 x calamari and the steak pie, order taken and paid for.

Shortly after we were informed no calamari so substituted for another selection, scampi and houlomi
Food arrived and a scampi and 2 houlomi arrived, told they were replacement for the calamari.
Waited further 5 min, no pie so enquired at bar and told there was no pie..apparently the staff should have told us and the scampi was the replacement...it was explained originally that scampi was for calamari!!
By now everyone eating so a refund was given for pie...Told NO pie

HERE IS THE KICKER AND MAIN REASON FOR REVIEW
Whilst still eating two pies get delivered to adjacent table.
We asked staff how the other customers have pies when we were told they had none available?
Answer= they have just come out oven and were not fully cooked when our order went in!!
20 min previous!!
How about first let us know there is pie, just not cooked yet and give the customer the option to wait.
There excuse- you wanted to eat together....
At no point were we told the menu item was available, in fact we were told it was not available, and that was only after we did not recieve it and enquired after all other dishes arrived....when it fact it was in the oven.

Terrible customer service , won't be recommending or reattending this now average establishment
Shame

We had booked a table for this pub, arrived to a fairly quiet lunchtime & shown a reserved table, but would have liked to have asked if was ok ,as we would have liked to sit in main pub area where tables are a little more spaced out. Food order was fairly quick & served hot. however our drinks ordered ( 2 bitter shandies) were at best flat & mediocre. suspect lemonade was from a gun dispenser and flat.we were not asked which beer we would like. Pub offers own made ice cream, a wide choice of flavours, but my wife 1st choice was not available? chose another & it was more cheesecake texture than icecream & frozen . at least serve ice cream a at room temp please. Not outstanding visit, could do better. I shall be returning a couple of weeks with 2 friends, will be interesting to see any different.
