We booked Nammbu for one night as it was the best rated place available in the area on our way from Playa Conchal via Nosara and Samara to Uvita.
From check-in to check-out disturbingly cold, one gets generally the feeling that the staff is not happy. Upon arrrival one gets introduced in a 2 minute speech about all rules and regulations of the Hotel and Covid-19 protocol as if one is checking in a military camp. Speaking fluent Spanish did not make any difference, being a positive and very open person neither.
Without going into detail, the room feels like a upscale students-home and does not mirror the generally beautiful outside of the property. No bathroom door. Rolling curtains avoid neighbors looking into your appartment but make you feel being locked away.
Garden lights bright white LED which flash into your face when walking by... trying to be ecologic can be done better.
When entering the restaurant one is kindly but forcefully asked to wash ones’ hands in the bathroom next to the restaurant. But then no paper to dry your hands... when explaining the restaurant manager that alcohol-dispensers at the entrance like in other top Hotels in Costa Rica or the world would be more ecologic (not wasting water) and in fact disinfecting better he kindly agreed but insisted that they are following the authorities rules by the book... I just wonder what all the others do wrong having their protocols fully in place such as the Amor Arenal and the W-Hotel.
Service in the restaurant regular and nice but again I somehow feel there is something wrong from above, they all just seem to do their job without passion. Food quality ok but maybe a bit overpriced for what it is.
Breakfast uninspired and regular.
View over Playa Carillo the biggest asset of the Hotel and beautiful.
Beef up your game, I work myself in tourism, hence I know how difficult it is. But being kind and smiling costs absolutely nothing! Wishing you the very best and hopefully accept this constructive criticism

We loved this hotel from the moment we got there. Clean, spacious rooms with ocean front views. Service was excellent, restaurant was good. Easy access to the beach and the pool was very nice. Not much to do walking distance besides the beach but plenty of restaurants in less than a 10 minute drive.

This hotel was part of our Destination Services tour. After reading other reviews I see it is a stop by many tour groups. I agree with many comments about the rooms, large but in need of work. The walk to the beach was very short and there is lots of opportunity to spend the day there. One one day the pool was packed with kids so not too relaxing. I still thought for a Costa Rican experience it was pretty nice. I have stayed in places much more rustic.

Let's start with the positives
Stunning architecture and great location
Negatives

Rooms have very little in them apart from the beds and there is no storage or hanging places for clothes.

Really expensive restaurant with terrible buffet breakfast.

Anyone with walking difficulties will need one of the golf buggies to get around as paths are very steep and also stairs to other than ground floor rooms are narrow and spiral.

Pool area has very few beds that are in the shade.

Reception is only open between 06:00 and 22:00 if you're lucky! We had a trip starting at 06:30 and there was no one there. As breakfast doesn't start til 07:00 we missed out on that as well.

Place is used extensively by tour groups who only stay for 1 or 2 nights. They also clog up the inadequate car park with huge coaches.

Build quality and maintenance in some rooms is patchy. We had to change rooms after one night as there was a leak in the ceiling, the toilet wouldn't flush properly and the patio door lock was broken and had been replaced by a latch contraption better suited to s public toilet.

Very few rooms have an unobstructed sea view and a lot just have a view of the block in front or a hedge.

Beach Front Bungalows is a misnomer as they are neither bungalows or on the beach. Accomodation is in blocks of 7 rooms over three floors.

In summary there is much better VFM within 10 minutes walk and as someone else said "All fur coat and no knickers". If you are thinking of staying for anything other than 1 or 2 nights please read all the 1, 2 and 3* reviews and believe them.

Would never consider returning

We stayed 3 nights end January. Badly thought out design of hotel - no clothes storage in rooms, no bedside lights or even light switches at bedside. Our promised sea view was over a 5ft wall! When we arrived the pool was green with algae and staff were throwing in chlorine tablets and anti-algae powder. It did improve after a few days but bad management. The worst was the cockroaches falling out of the air conditioning unit above the bed. The last night we counted 7 all over the room. Yuk!
