This is a wonderful renovated stone cottage on the 'front' edge of Govedjari meaning you nave great views from all rooms. Everything has been thought of to make it comfortable from a selection of chairs to simple condiments in the well stocked kitchen. The windows are double glazed with shutters so you can block out the early morning Summer light but also open everything up to let the breeze in. If not, there is a great air con unit.
Everything worked well and with lots of storage - it's nice to spread out and get comfortable and relaxed. You should know that while this village is in the national park and has no businesses (it is very peaceful) you'll need to bring groceries in with you to cook (great cooking facilites but no microwave), but all of the houses are close together and on our June visit, the warm holiday evenings meant kids were running around everywhere screaming from 4 to 8pm. Nothing much you can do about it but be aware if it might be annoying to you.
The lakes are an easy 15 min walk away and Pomena is about 35min, Polace 45mins (one way - hilly!). Don't trust the 'walking tracks' shown on the map though as many are overgrown and no longer exist.
Our only complaint in what was a wonderful stay was that the bed frame is really creaky. Everytime you make the smallest move you will wake up your partner with the massive noises the bed makes! Other than that everything here is peaceful and relaxing and Kristina's help and collection and return to the ferry was wonderful. I'm very pleased we got this place and avoided the busier centres.
This is a beautifully renovated little house in a quiet mountain-top village located .5 kilometers from the Mljet National Park. The owner organized for taxi transport from the ferry, the housekeeper provided a warm welcome when we arrived, and brought us back to the ferry at the end of our stay. Information about the island as a whole was available in the house, the kitchen was well stocked with basic supplies, but some planning was required to make sure we passed by one of the area villages to pick up food as there was no restaurant in Govedari. The housekeeper, Kristina, prepared a fantastic meal for us one night, probably the best we had all through our trip. Others might want to stay by the lakes, or in the busier villages, but for our group, this was the perfect location.
