We cycled from Como to Swiss side and had a rest and coffee break. Very helpful staff who gave us map and road indications.

Staid there during 4 weeks while on a nearby assignment with the Swiss Armed Forces.

No need to loose a lot of words on the menu, especially the pasta is simply "out of this world!"

Basic, yet spacious and clean rooms and needless to say, the wine list too is outstanding. Whether you are off for a culinary experience, traveling off the beaten track, or simply on transit and looking for something more than just a pillow and a burger from a nearby Applebee's, look no further.

Oh, before I forget, they also have a pretty cool bar with great coffee in the morning, and a nice choice of bubbles in the evening.

All in all, thanks for the great hospitality to the Montereale family ant the entire staff!!!

This is a modern restaurant in a village close to Chiasso. The interior is well decorated and spacious - tables well apart although no view really.
We have been a few times over a number of years and it is notable how they keep the offer bang up to date. It has changed totally to be modern. We go for lunch which does not seem to need booking at least in October. Prices are high but the fixed lunches are reasonable - total bill of SFR 120 for 2 for 1 star Michelin seems perfect!
As with most such restaurant, there are numerous "extra" courses slotted in by the friendly staff who happily translate all the menu detail into English; expect to talk to the chef and the owner too.

I honestly don't know, after having visited most 2-3 stars in the nearby Italy, how did the Michelin guys came to give stars to this place.

It has nothing to do with stars quality. Decor is quite average, cellar is quite average, and food is VERY average or below.

Save money and go to the first Trattoria you find after the border with Italy, you'll be better off

One of the few Michelin restaurants in the region. Decor is quite dissapointing, it felt a little like an old age home. Service isnt as sharp as other Michelins, though they are friendly. Probably my biggest criticism are the prices which are easily 30-40 Euros more expensive then other 1 star Michelin restaurant menu options. Why do Swiss establishments feel entitled to over-charge? O.k, now about the food: we had the largest menu option (8 courses). Food was good, not menorable though. The dessert courses were much more impressive. Nice to meet the young Chef. I feel with a decor makeover, finer service training, a drop in price and a little more imagination with the main courses this place could be much better.
