We have stayed in both the cottages and lodges. It's so great we've been 3 times and are already looking to book our 4th. Angela and chris are fantastic and have been great each stay ensuring suitable make up of rooms for children, great toys appropriate to ages and kids just roam around their property exploring and love it. Fantastic location close to Longleat Safari park, great pub 5 mins away. You're never short of anything to do but if you also want to just chill, have a bbq and play then it's great too. Highly recommend .
We had one of the newer eco lodges for a family get together. A mixed group which is always difficult to please...However the Lodges do just that.....the little ones were free to roam around the huge space by the lodges safely and freely nothing was too precious or manicured...which makes for a more relaxing environment. The "older" generation were cosy in the lovely warm lodge equipped with all the necessary cooking equipment and necessary home comforts!...Spacious, clean and ready early for an early check in which helped us enormously. Chris and Angela are great hosts and nothing is too much bother...they were on hand with tips of where to eat and see and their friendly black lab was a huge hit with the kids!
Situated ideally for Longleat, Bathand surrounding areas...beckington has a few great pubs ...saying that it was delightful to come back to the lovely quiet , peaceful setting of the Lodges

Owners are really helpful.
I stayed in one of the cottages at By the Byre four years ago and loved it so was very excited to return again. This time stayed in a lodge as there were more of us staying. I was a little disappointed as I had read on the website that the lodges had been newly renovated. The bed and the sofa in the lounge were pretty lumpy and overall it didn't feel as "nice" as the cottage did four years ago. Also things like there was no mirror anywhere except the bathroom and there are no windows, just doors, which means you can't have a window open at night which made it a little bit stuffy. The bath tap in the main bathroom didn't work so we had to fill up the bath using the shower. The owners were lovely and helpful as everyone has said, we arrived to find bread, eggs and butter all waiting for us which is lovely. We did really enjoy our stay but agree that the place just needs a bit of TLC and perhaps some new furniture.
Fab location, owners helpful and a nice time had.
This said, the lodges need a bit TLC. They appear grey with the wood in dire need of restraining. The bathroom shower curtain was in need of demoulding and net curtains in the living room were grubby, with brow stains and hems had had it. These stains were also a feature in many of the wardrobe corners too.
Someone had emptied the BBQ on the decking and left the ashes and grills there along with patio chairs sprawled around all over the decking, which had wired fencing that was broken.
The surrounding fields and ponds are nice apart from one, although nothing like in the photos as the grass is well overdue a cut. The grass that had been, was not collected and so you walked grass in all the time. In addition there was random items like left around like a trashed set of poles off a marquee left in our view strewn out on a bench rather than removed or hidden. It all needs some fresh eyes and attention.
The place simply needs a few £££ spending to bring it back to its former glory and to justify the price. This was our experience but other lodge dwellers may have had better.
