We visited here at the beginning of May, but I didn't know how to post a review for a restaurant not yet listed on TripAdvisor. I brought my husband for his birthday and we both had the pork belly. It was outstanding - something I hope to return for. Lovely setting, attentive and friendly staff, fantastic food beautifully presented - what more could one hope for?

“Innovative food in a stunning setting”
Reviewed 14 June 2016

I was familiar with the restaurant on Wildekrans wine estate when it was Open and had some solid dishes on the menu (like the lamb burger) so was initially disappointed when I arrived to discover it had changed names, owners and chefs... but as soon as the food arrived, I was won over. Great culinary artistry and a boutique menu has makes Forage a fine experience in the country. Highly recommend the confit duck and chocolate dessert (can't remember what it was but loved the spun sugar & decadent torte). Treat yourself to a leisurely lunch here

“Pleasant surprise! ”
Reviewed 29 May 2016 via mobile

The venue is new and the enthusiasm is addictive with staff wide eyed and keen to share the foraging experience with you! Think local mushroom cuppachino as an amuse bouche, chokka terrine as a starter and divine Elgin duck as mains...all with excellent Wildekrans wines to match! We spent a perfect sunny sunday with excellent service by staff who love sharing local info with you.

“Stellar experience”
Reviewed 26 May 2016 via mobile

I first visited the then 'Open' restaurant in Wilderkraans some time ago between 18 and 24 months since. At the time I had shortlisted it to my top five restaurants to visit.

Then, as now, the Wilderkraans experience offered excellent food, excellent wine and breathtaking backdrop amongst the rolling arable hills with hawks swirling in the warm updraughts eagle eyed ready to swoop down onto unsuspecting pray!

But now the newly named 'Forage' offers what was; but with a stellar culinary trip to the stratosphere with food worthy of the title 'haute cuisine' and a French accolade of star proportions. The food is simply superb, beautifully presented, brilliantly executed, with excellent aforethought.

Forage is the operative word which describes the brainchild of Gregory Henderson, the Forage Head Chef. A concept which encapsulates the use of local produce and unusual ingredients foraged from local climes which embraces kitchen staff and customers alike. This concept also being rolled out in a sister establishment in Durban.

Gregory Henderson brings far more to the table than his undoubted culinary knowledge and skills but also on a broader canvas his project management skills which in the future will be engaged in the roll out of a wider vision in and around Bot Rivier, best be revisited when it arrives.

If his achievements to date are anything to go by we are all in for a treat. Far be it from me to steal his thunder. Suffice to say from what I have gleaned it will be yet more experiences to savour. You will have to wait, but the wait will be worth it and I for one will be one of the first on board!

Dear Mike,

my apologies for only responding to you now and thank you so much for your review.
Unfortunately the restaurant burnt down in june due to antique wiring we inherited from the previous tenants when we took over the restaurant.

i am happy to say that after only 3 months we have rebuilt our restaurant and have recently reopened with a brand new menu, open plan kitchen theatre and a redesigned interior.

we look forward to welcoming you and your wife for another experience and to sample our representation of indigenous edibles on our menu.

many thanks once again for your review
