We spent three days hiking and birding in Monfragüe National Park and stayed here each night. Carmen's place is a supremely comfortable private home-turned-Casa Rural, and Carmen provided the warmest welcome we've received in years. The food is excellent (and allergies and preferences are gracefully accommodated) and dinner has a nice local wine list. Our room was quiet, cozy, spotless, with a comfortable bed, great shower, and equally excellent WIFI and A/C. The ranch is minutes by car from the best birding and hiking in Monfragüe. We didn't use the pool, but it was clean, and chaise lounges were set up to allow for sunning or relaxing in the shade.

Make sure you plan to eat dinner here every night. Carmen's cooking is innovative and delicious.

We could live here indefinitely.

Carmen is the owner of this secluded farm that has been in her family for years. She’s an absolute delight: warm and charming and made us feel so welcome in her family home.

Carmen is also a fabulous cook. She prepared a delicious platter of grilled vegetables grown on her land followed by venison in the most amazing sauce with crispy potato chips. Followed by mint ice cream and a biscuit. For breakfast we had ham from carmen’s pigs, home made cake full of nuts, fresh orange juice and bread served with home made jams.

Just delightful!

Excellent home cooked meals. Fine selection of wine and beer served. Hospitality also excellent.

Carmen speaks English and was very patient with my attempts at Spanish.

Very relaxing home environment on large property.

Rooms were great. We had lunches prepared that were outstanding.

Four of us used this marvelous hotel as a base for birding in Monfrague National Park.

Thank you so much.

Room tip: All rooms are good.

We stayed here for two nights as part of a self guided cycling tour. Carmen had cold water ready for us when we arrived and was a great host. Our meals were great and incorporated a lot of things from Carmen's farm - lamb, eggplant, eggs, oranges plus other things.

The hotel is pretty remote, quiet and has great views.

After a disastrous start to our holiday (we had left the driving licence at home) we arrived at Carmen's Palacio 2 days late. On arrival, we discovered that she had adjusted our booking to reflect our reduced length of stay, and we had not incurred any further charges. (Thank you Carmen). The first sight of her Palacio, with its beautiful gardens, is just breathtaking. We were taken to our bedroom to drop our cases, and shown the outdoor pool, which we dived into immediately. Carmen served us fresh watermelon and water by the poolside and got on with preparing our 3 course meal - all ingredients coming from her own land - lamb, vegetables, fig ice cream.... delicious! Sitting under the wooden gazebo in her garden, listening to the sounds of the cicadas and cow bells, we felt we could finally relax! Carmen's palacio is an ideal place for birdwatching. We will never forget the sight and sound of vultures soaring overhead at Salto del Gitano, our long climb in the heat of the day to Monfrague Castle and the sight of blue rock thrushes at Portilla del Tietar. One day was clearly not going to be long enough here, so we stayed for a further day before moving on to Merida. We made a decision to return to Carmen's for the last day of our holiday as we had enjoyed it so much. We fell in love with Carmen and her beautiful home and can't wait to return for a longer stay another year. Next time, we will come better prepared with driving licence and more sophisticated photographic equipment to do justice to this wonderful experience.
