Wellness enthusiasts

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 30 Sept 2024
The Biafora is a focal point of the region for wellness enthusiasts, with the very well-equipped and maintained spa offering a range of services that draw adherents from near and far. It's set in pleasant grounds on the SS-107 just west of town, with plenty of parking and space to sit outside and relax without necessarily indulging in any of the spa amenities. The Michelin restaurant serves a rather pretentious breakfast more suited to the wellness brigade than to the hearty eater, and when the acclaimed restaurant is closed there is a very enjoyable rustic alternative just across the road in the Torre Garga.

This was a hard review to write as I really wanted to like the hotel and spa but at every turn they seem to be apathetic or incapable of fixing the smallest issues. This may be an OK place during the winter, however the summer is horrible because the hotel has central AC and controls all rooms HVAC from the front desk and will not cool the rooms below 75 degrees Fahrenheit (26 Celsius) worse yet they turn off the AC at 11pm.. we had their best room which was a suite and the windows opened on to the highway! Yet still worse .. the smoking spot for the hotel staff and guests was just below our window so at night you’d wake up coughing from the second hand smoke coming into your room!! This was a known issue and yet they do nothing to move the ash tray away from the windows - extremely lazy and self centered! What hotel allows their staff to smoke at their front door??!! They speak of health and holistic approach while everyone smokes a pack a cigarettes… when we asked to move they say the hotel is full.. yet their parking lot is empty.. their incompetent management should be fired and someone who knows how to run a boutique hotel brought in.

As to the spa.. beyond the unlicensed masseuse who did a pretty poor job and left us covered in oil, the real issue here is safety; none of the jacuzzis had even a hand bar or rail to get in or out of. How that passed city inspectors is a mystery - that is only made worse when you go in to the shower area and find the glass shattered all over the shower and left that way for days. Truly a poorly managed and very poor experience.

Room tip: On the positive the Hyle is one of the best restaurants in Italy! Truly a magnificent culinary experience.

Amazing and very close to Cuturelle adventure Park... It's a park that caters children as young as 2 years old to adults over 50years... We where there on a Sunday and we loved the Foam Party organized. The place is only 5 minutes drive. Surely recommended for families with young children

Hotel, resort in a strategic place to visit the whole environment of Sila.
All the services are definitely performed with extreme professionalism.
The rooms are comfortable, and the indoor swimming pool/sauna/spa it's an excellent topic to do at the end of the day spent visiting the surrounding.

This hotel was extremely clean, family oriented. We had a fabulous dinner there. I would highly recommend this hotel and spa. We enjoyed the little coffee and alcohol bar. In the spa they accommodated us with cold cuts cheese and wine for lunch. All very gracious people.

We had a marvelous experience at Hotel Biafora. The food, service and the rooms were excellent. We were in Calabria for a family wedding that was being held at the hotel and we decided to add a few days on our visit. What a smart decision! The rooms were well appointed and the spa facility (only completed in January 2016) was impeccable. The real surprise was the quality of the food. The chef has taken traditional Calabrese dishes and added a modern touch. We are still raving about the gnocchi with a lemon/Caprino sauce. All in all we will try and make this a regular stop each time we travel to Calabria. We all agree that the Sila Mountain region in Calabria is the Montana of Italy...with better food!
