Wanting to have an Aeolian island experience, 8 members of our family rented the Grand Villa on the island of Salina for a week...and what a week it was! The Villa is fabulous with plenty of room and space for all of us to spread out and enjoy. There are 4 bedrooms (one room and bathroom is on the ground floor and the remaining 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms are on the first floor). The bedrooms are comfortable and there are lots of separate areas in the home to relax and take in some quiet time. The views from the upper terrace are fantastic and make for a great place to have evening drinks and nibbles as the sun goes down.
There are plenty of local shops nearby and the port of Santa Marina is a short walk away (as too is the local bus). Everything is within walking distance so there is no need for a car.
The owners, Mary Ann and Jim are excellent. They respond quickly to email enquiries and provide a comprehensive manual – in English – in the home. Mary Ann’s cousin, Marcusa welcomed us to the Grand Villa on arrival. Though she only speaks Italian, with my limited understanding of Italian I was able to get the gist of things.
If you want a fabulous place to stay where you can base yourself in order to explore Salina and the Aeolian islands, I highly recommend staying at the Grand Villa. It's spacious and comfortable; the location is superb and the views in the morning and evening, well… they are a treat!
