From the House itself with cosy nooks and beautiful gardens, to the truly innovative and delicious menu, The House at Temple Sowerby is a place offering a unique and exceptional experience.
Alison, Andi and their staff made this an entirely delicious and welcome rest on our way to Stranraer.
Being made so welcome and accommodating our varied tastes (vegan and omnivore) with ease, has made our brief sojourn an absolute delight. This is an excellent environment in which to luxuriate in lovely company and natural beauty. Everything on offer leaves one feeling pampered, which is a good thing!

Thank you for taking the time to post this review as you were on a very tight schedule. When you called to make the booking, you asked if our chefs would be able to accommodate your dietary requirements and the answer was yes! The Restaurant at Temple Sowerby not only offers fresh, local food but also an ability to cater for all tastes.

We are glad that you found The House as relaxing as we had hoped to make it.

We hope to see you in the future as you travel to and from Stranraer.

Kind regards, all at The House

We were travelling to the Lake District for an activity day when my wife was taken ill. We had a reservation for the evening at The House at Temple Sowerby so at 9.30 am I rang the hotel to see if they could help. They immediately said no problem and arranged a quiet room for her. Nothing was too much trouble and the stay in the evening was very comfortable with excellent food. We will definitely stay again when visiting the area.

Stayed here on our way south and it just happened to be our 10th wedding anniversary. We stayed upstairs in the coach house so didn’t have an opportunity to see the bedrooms in the main house although did later explore the lovely sitting rooms. The bar was cosy and friendly. The meal was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed our eating experience.

Perhaps for your next anniversary you could try one of the rooms in the main house and enjoy a celebratory glass of fizz on us? We're glad that you had a good stay with us for your special celebration.

I stayed here for four nights while visiting friends in the area. The whole feel is luxury without being at all stuffy. I stayed in the deluxe room... think glass of prosecco in the jacuzzi bath and massive bed with luxurious bedding. There’s a lovely little bar if you want to just sit with a coffee or glass of wine. We had dinner one night in the restaurant and the food was delicious, really inventive and unusual. Also ate some of the best scrambled eggs I’ve ever had at breakfast. The staff were lovely, nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

We're very happy that your four night stay with us lived up to your expectations and you enjoyed one of our new deluxe rooms which are fitted out with those little extras for special occasions. Thank you for your recommendation.

We stayed here on our way south, and found it comfortable, friendly, with good food and dog-friendly too. In that respect you might say it is an upmarket alternative to the Tebay services hotel on the M6. Temple Sowerby is very quiet since the opening of the bypass.
