There are long-term rooms and shorter term ones which are smaller. I occupy the last available long term room. Large glass windows in aluminium frames, spacious with large bathroom and four poster bed with mosquito net. Bathroom has hot water - not so in the smaller rooms.

The rooms are kept clean with clean linen and towels every day (not really necessary). Marvellous garden (natural) surroundings.

Breakfast with oats, rice, tibs, beans, potatoes/tomato and eggs of your choice.

Unfortunately broke into my room (through window) and stole USD 2 000 worth of my belongings. Security sharpened and burglar bars fitted to the window afterwards.

Hotel is right next to the Baro river. Water available and good quality (brush my teeth with it) and the hotel has a standby generator (used a lot with the many power outages.

Room Tip: All rooms ok. The long term ones good but all rented out.

In the States, this would be a 2 star hotel. But it's rural Ethiopia. The room was kept consistently clean, the bed was firm, the mosquito net with effective. The air conditioner in my room did not work, but they provided me with an extra fan. The restaurant has a 12-page menu, but they only ever have about five dishes. And the outdoor patio area is a pleasant place to sit and drink a cup of coffee in the morning or a beer in the afternoon. And if you're lucky, the colabo monkeys will come by and steal the bread off your table.

I stayed in this hotel whilst working in Gambella. The gardens that surround the hotel and the outdoor eating/drinking area were great. I often saw colobo monkeys right above me in the trees, whilst having breakfast outside. There is also an indoor restaurant. The food is basic, but varied and good. They do take out lunches if necessary. Lots of choice at breakfast, but you, which is included with the room, but you are only allowed one cup of coffee in the land of coffee! Any more and you have to pay for it. The rooms are very basic but do the job. The room is clean and is cleaned every day, fresh sheets too. The room I stayed at was spacious and had a single bed, TV and AC and a cold shower. The staff is helpful and aim to please the guests. Internet can be problematic, it was on and off, but I think the service in Gambella is unreliable anyway.

My experience in the Baro hotel was a actually a pleasant surprise, although trying to get in touch with the hotel to pre book is virtually impossible! The rooms are like chalets with a well fitted mosquito net, tv with a few satellite channels and a western bathroom, and are clean & comfortable. The communal courtyard is an excellent spot to relax, serving quality food & drink and the staff are all very helpful. If visiting Gambella the Baro is definitely a good option, although being beside the UN headquarters you do get the impression it is often busy, although in the end I turned up ad-hoc and was accommodated immediately.

Two of us stayed here for a few nights in late March and early April, 2016.
It’s a very pleasant place. The clean and comfortable rooms are in one story units stretching through a garden. The atmosphere is quiet and peaceful. The AC and bathrooms worked just fine. Outdoor dining is under trees. They prepared egg sandwiches for us to take on our long expedition to Gambella National Park. There are very few tourists in this area, but the hotel is popular with the omnipresent people connected to the many NGOs in Ethiopia, so may be booked. Advance booking is recommended.

Room Tip: The rooms are in single level motel-like arrangement through a garden. Our room was towards the end of the line, and very quiet.
