Blanchland is a picture perfect little village and the White Monk sits in the centre of it. We chose to sit outside as the sun was shining and it was lovely to just sit back and enjoy the beauty of the surroundings.

The cakes we had certainly appeared to be homemade and were delicious as was their homemade ruhbarb jam. Not too expensive for the quality of what they offer.

Staff were friendly and attentive. Will certainly return when back in the area.

Fascinating place in a historic village, great food at reasonable prices. Dog friendly garden, parking nearby. Ramp access for wheelchairs and accessible toilets.
The history of the village is shown on framed pictures on the walls and are well worth reading. Read about the white cannons from which the village gets it's name.

A family member brought me here for lunch. I had a brie and cranberry panini, which was delicious. The fire was on, as it was a very cold day, which made the room very cosy. Lovely staff in a beautiful setting.

Today was our 3rd and last visit to the tearooms. Both previous visits have had the "awkward" initial moment until seated as described, bitty coffee and the customer service has always been variable, however it is in a beautiful village and I love reading the history displayed on the walls. Today we were made to feel very unwelcome and will not be returning. We asked for a table for 3 (2 adults and 1 child), there were tables for 2 or a table outside with a parasol, which would be ideal as it was starting to rain. We were told they couldn't accomodate us as the outside table would make it awkward for staff if it started to rain heavy. This may be a valid reason?? However was put across in an abrupt and unfriendly manner. I would say the customer service displayed from the younger members of staff has always been very good and friendly.
