Description: Hello there! The Kicking Donkey is an elegant yet relaxed place to come and drink, eat and meet with friends and family. It's a classic country pub with bags of character, boasting a selection of cracking real ales and stunning wines, and has shelves crammed with gins, rums and single malts. On sunny days, there's a lovely south facing beer garden to soak up the rays. When things get a little chilly, there are three log fires to cosy up to, and little corners to lose yourself in for the afternoon with a paper. We are now fully open with a brilliant seasonal menu. Matt and the team can't wait to welcome you.

Unaware of the changes, we turned up to our nice little hideaway a stones throw from Ormskirk town centre, what a transformation, The exterior is nice and bright and welcoming and the interior has a relaxing yet traditional look. Food may seem a bit pricey at first glance but you are more than welcome to share a main course if you're only peckish! be aware the portions are HUGE.

I visited the Kicking Donkey today for the first time in many, many years. What a superb surprise I got almost as soon as I walked through the door.

The decor and layout is light, bright, fresh, clean and welcoming. My friend and I were greeted by a lovely pleasant member of staff who showed us to our table and gave us menus, along with the specials on offer for today's lunch.

Our drink order taken, we perused the extensive, varied menu. I was particularly impressed by the vegetarian choices. It was so refreshing to have vegetarian meals that have actually been thought about.

Once we had ordered our meals it was a very acceptable length of time before our meals were served. It was beautiful. Fresh, local produce beautifully executed. It was sublime. Portion size was very good, however the owner/manager was not satisfied and actually brought us more chips!

The service was superb. The staff were friendly, helpful and well versed in customer service. The portion sizes were very good but not over-facing. The pricing of the menu was spot on. All in all I will most definitely be returning and I will also spread the word about this lovely place.

Thank you to the staff that I met today and to the chef for his wonderful meal.

This pub is a really nice mix of classy and casual with a lot of nice touches like small vases of wildflowers and shelves of books. The food is great and there is a really good choice.

Called to the Kicking Donkey with my wife for Sunday Dinner.
On our arrival the staff were starting a Barbecue of which a menu was presented to us.
We decided to have a two course meal which was very nice and very tasty.
We moved tables due to the heat outside and finished our meals inside the Pub.
Lovely place to eat and the owners/staff are very friendly and welcoming.

We visited here today with our dog. We were made to feel really welcome and the food was beautiful and extremely tasty.
We could tell that the ingredients had been well sourced and were of a high quality. Pork Belly starter with fresh chillis and pea purée was really tender, Gammon roast dinner very tasty and the battered Haddock and chips, again really fresh and tasty.
It’s obvious time is taken over preparation and cooking and the ingredients are freshly prepared.
Definitely be returning.
