The Gite was perfect for us as a big party wanting to do lots of different things both together and seperately. The owners are lovely and the kids made friends with their dog Sam and loved feeding the pet guinea pigs and chickens. We were greeted with a homemade cake with a bottle of wine, beers and milk in the fridge. A real nice touch.

There are plenty of bikes provided for all ages if you wish to go on a ride and Susan is happy to help with routes should you need it. Its in a quiet location with a cracking pool and the enormous garden is full of activities. Trampoline, table tennis, play area, badminton and lots more.

The nearest large supermarket is less than 10 minutes away and a local town with a few shops is easy accessible by car or bicycle. Its also surrounded by lots of tourist attractions within a reasonable distance. We booked a meal at a local restaurant recommended by Susan and we were not dissapointed. The food was delicious and we feel excellent value for money.

In my opinion there are a couple of minor things that, altough they would not stop us booking again, could be improved. Firstly the decking around the pool area has a few loose boards that could be a trip hazard, especially with young excited children.

Towels. Although clean they were quite stiff and obviously well used so could do with being replaced.

Some of the DVDs are scratched and unwatchable and a few of the toys have bits missing or are broken. This is obviously down to misuse by holiday makers and not Susans doing but could do with a sort out.

Lastly we did notice some of the information in the folder is out of date. The menu for the local restaurant is different and one of the places recommended for a day out is actually now closed. Not a major thing but could spoil a day out for someone.

Overall we had a great week and would highly recommend staying here to anyone.

P.s. buy some eggs from the lovely lady next door they are amazing.

Thankyou for your review and your kind comments regarding the house and garden. The other comments are very useful - I will sort out the toys, unfortunately I don't have time to do that every week and they do get well used by guests. Regarding the towels, they are stiff because I don't tumble dry them - they are good quality and I replace them regularly. I will indeed change the information in the notes, I wasn't aware that any of the attractions mentioned had closed, although out of peak holiday season some attractions have rather random opening time. The decking has been fixed! Thankyou again and I'm so pleased you enjoyed your stay here, Susan

Just back from a week staying in Les Hirondelles and can confirm the other amazing reviews are spot on - this really is a special place.

The gites are in a tranquil hamlet surrounded by farmland but close to a choice of villages/boulangeries for the all-important breakfast pastries and within an hour’s drive of beautiful beaches. The nearest large town is Fougères with its wonderful medieval castle, public gardens and great restaurants (highly recommend Le Tivabro for fantastic crepes and galettes).

Within easy strolling distance is a former railway track which made for a lovely walk we wished we’d bought our bikes (but there are some to borrow too). 10 minutes drive away was the Forêt de Villecartier which we absolutely loved - a shady forest, boating lake, pony rides and playgrounds.

It was great to return each day to relax in the huge garden or splash in the pool - both of which are immaculately maintained. Equipment in the garden includes football goals, badminton nets, swingball, slides, swings, table tennis, a trampoline - basically more than enough to keep everyone occupied. The cherry on the cake was our children making friends with families in the other gites which meant they could run around and entertain each other, giving the parents some much needed down time!

Susan, the owner, was so friendly and helpful with some great suggestions for days out and offering to help with restaurant bookings - including the highlight of lunch at a local farm/auberge.

Definitely one of our favourite holidays and we hope to return!

Our family of 5 had a lovely week at La Haute Manceliere. We stayed in Les Alouettes and were very comfortable. The house was clean and well equipped with everything we needed. The kids loved the pool, trampoline and yard games. There are several running and biking trails nearby that we enjoyed as well as a convenient market within a few miles. The town of Saint Brice was lovely for our morning croissants from the boulangerie. During the week we visited Mont Saint Michel, Saint Malo, Dinard and several beaches. It was a relaxing week in a beautiful location. Thank you Susan for a wonderful accommodation!

Beautiful setting, very comfortable accommodation, but most importantly loads for the kids to do - swimming, football, a family game of boules or trampolining, all in the back garden. The cottage comes with a book full of great suggestions about activities and eateries in the local area. Coastal trips, tree top walking, Mont St Michel and good hearty French food available nearby. We had 10 days in Les Hirondelles and it passed too quickly. The weather was perfect, but even on the one slightly overcast day, the roof can be pulled over the swimming pool. The one draw back is the local patisserie.... this seems to make your jeans shrink!

Susan was an amazing and accommodating host. We stayed at the house for six weeks with our two
Pugs and experienced the best of Brittany and the beautiful countryside and pathways that were all around us. I would imagine it's even better in the summer because there is a huge garden and pool to enjoy.
If you're looking for a relaxed and laid back place to stay and particularly if you have dogs I couldn't recommend it more highly. Another bonus was the neighbours who sold fresh eggs from their hens that you can see free ranging from the accommodation. Perfect!
