The gardens and path leading up to this shrine are as interesting as the shrine itself. Beautiful grounds and paths leading to/from the shrine in the heart of the city near Harajuku.

There are bathrooms on site.

Thing I love most when visiting Meiji Jingu is the beautiful walking path through the shrine. We got there early in the morning and spent 2 hours walking while enjoying the green scenery. It's peaceful and calm.

The big Torii in the entrance looks strong and mighty, give awesome feeling about the past. When we went there, there is bonsai exhibition so it's nice spending sometime appreciate those miniature trees.

While the shrine itself was pretty crowded, even in the morning, you can still enjoy walking around. We saw some Japanese brides taking their wedding photos with family and friends, little children in their kimono, and people praying in the shrine.

An oasis of calm, a walk through the park and to the shrine in the woods is a great way to spend an hour. The temple is well maintained and beautiful.

Absolutely lovely walk towards the shrine. Come early and avoid the crowds and it's such a wonderful and serene experience. Their respect for this place is evident in the way the grounds are maintained. Just beautiful.

Part of the beauty of Meiji Shrine is that it is surrounded by the sprawling green of Yoyogi Park. We spent a few hours walking through the shrine grounds and learning about its history. It was a calm oasis in the middle of the chaos of Tokyo, and we are definitely glad we spent time here.
