“Lovely experience”

Tsukiji Honganji Temple
Ranked #13 of 502 things to do in Chuo
Attraction details

If you’re in the area visiting the Tsukiji Fish Market, don’t waste the opportunity to pop up the road (10 minute walk) in order to visit the Tsukiji Honganji Temple (Tsukiji Hongan-ji). The present temple was built between 1931 and 1934 and is a wonderful chance to view and experience the architecture and daily ‘Pure Land Buddhism’ practices. My family and I entered the temple and thoroughly enjoyed the frequent religious practices and prayer. I took many photos without any issue however at other times there may be restrictions.

Near to the Tsukiji Fish market, the temple is an old historic piece of architecture. As with all temples in Japan, it is beautiful and clean.

This temple a landmark for the Tsukiji Station area. It is beautifully temple with free admission and stamp for your personal travel collection. There are some restaurants and souvenirs shop right beside the temple main entrance. It is a nice and meditative retreat spot in the middle of busy Tsukiji station area.

the screen was closed and we couldn't see the buddha; later, there was a school assembly, but we could still go inside, keeping very quiet, but we weren't allowed to photo the buddha. it is very interesting to note there are organs in buddhist temple, which is very rare, so at first i thought it was a christian church.

Compared to other buddhist temples i had visited in south-east asia, this temple and surrounding gardens outside are very well kept

This temple is a short walk from the Fish market and well worth taking a look.

It is a large Stone built Buddhist Temple, this a contrast to most of the temples and shrines which are wooden, it is a beautiful building and there are a number of interesting memorials along the fence-line as well
