“I would go back again and again”

This was seriously the best trip we have ever taken.

Everything from setting up the rental to important local information and directions was easy and very helpful. Pat and Bill the caretakers were available with out being intrusive and hooked us up with a local couple that raised beef, pork and chicken and made their own bacon and cheeses. The best fresh meats and cheeses I have ever had.

Everything we did the was fun and the people were amazing. I can't say enough good things about Mike the butterfly guy, or Freddy and Manu of Wingnuts in Samara I must say the best part was waking up everyday and walking out to surf with nobody else around then coming in to see the sea turtles emerging from the little lagoon that popped up from an extra high tide.

I would and do recommend staying here to all my friends and family.

If you are looking for a private, hidden gem in an unbeatable location, this is the house for you! Not your average touristy vacation but more of a tucked-away-from-it-all respite. We cooked, we sunned, we read, we relaxed all while enjoying the amazing views and tranquility. If you're looking to get away from it all and I mean truly get away, this is the house for you.

“Tranquility Found”

Just spent a great week at SDC. It's a bit of a trek to get there, but worth it in every way. Our family included two kids - ages 5 and 8. The house was as featured, and the location didn't disappoint - perfectly quiet and remote. Roads were better than I expected. We have seen much worse in other Caribbean travels.

Pat took great care of us, helping to line up some activities for the week: fishing, horseback riding, butterfly farm tour and even some surf lessons from her husband, Wild Bill. All were great and added to our week of family fun.

Cocos Locos is less than a half mile walk down the beach for cold beer and incredibly fresh and tasty fish with a view right out onto the sand. They even do chicken fingers and french fries for the kiddos. The quality of the food and presentation faaaaar exceeded our expectations. Don't miss it!

Highly recommend the area and this rental if you are looking to get off the beaten path and enjoy some truly quiet time away from the trappings of more touristy beaches and areas. Being right on the beach was awesomely convenient. Walk back to the house for lunch, snacks, drinks or bathroom.

Couple of other tips:

Make sure you grocery shop before you arrive at the house, but also know that the market in Playa Coyote is pretty decent too. It was a good mid-week stock up on a few things.

Pizza Tree restaurant is only 10 minutes away, pretty decent thin crust pizza. And in a really cool venue (platforms up in the tree, but safe/ kid friendly). Arrive and order about 20 minutes before sunset. Oh, and it's BYOB, so pack a little cooler with a couple of ice cold cervezas.

Keep bug spray on hand at all times. They weren't bad most of the time. But whenever that wind dies, or the sun goes down, they can come out in force for a bit.

Learn a little Spanish ahead of time, make some vocab flash cards. A little goes a long way, and it shows some respect for the local residents. Get a few basic phrases and key words (food, shopping, greetings etc). This combined with a big smile can get you through anything down there.

The house also had some sand toys for the kids (buckets, shovels and a boogie board, we additionally left a couple of beach balls and a soccer ball). Was perfect!

Go, you won't regret it!

“The way it should be!”

Playa San Miguel is a piece of paradise that is secluded but well worth the trek. We travelled with 6 adults and 7 children under 7 throughout Costa Rica and this was by consensus the best place we stayed. Travelling by private bus from Samara is a beautiful drive along the coastal mountains including a river crossing that everyone loved! (make sure if you have a rental vehicle and decide to cross the river you know where you are going and the tides). Patty the manager of the property will ensure you arrive safe and introduce you to Cheo the caretaker (farmer) and orientate you with the property. The property is a modern large 4 bedroom house directly on the beach. Upstairs are 2 large bedrooms both with bathrooms and the master bedroom has a soaker tub. Downstairs two more spacious bedrooms with a shared bathroom. There is a very modern kitchen and sitting area and out side overlooking the beach is the covered dinning area where we spent most of our time. There is an outdoor shower to wash away the tons of beach sand that you bring back with you. Two hammocks topped off the theme " off the beaten path in style" The beach itself was the best we saw on our trip with KM and KM of amazing sand and no people. There is one bar made out of an old shipping container on the beach which may sound bad but was actually very nice and the food was great. If you want fresh food Patty will arrange fresh fish off the boat wihich we did and it was fantastic! Cheo will also give you fresh eggs or chicken if you request it. There is not much to do here but to relax and enjoy the incredible beauty but a few attractions we did take advantage of were the Mike's butterfly farm and he is a charismatic, ,knowledgeable warm host, surfing with fellow Canadians Wild by Nature Adventures, This for us is the way Costa Rica should be visited and enjoyed, A word of warning if you travel here, it is not easy to get to but worth it and if you are relying on transportation other than your own do not pick the taxi out of here! You will not be disappointed if you pick this location and we hope to return!!
