“Beautiful cave, wonderful views and superb owners.”
Reviewed 23 August 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We booked the villa with English owners Claire and Martin. Excellent directions were sent before hand via email and upon arrival we were directed to a BP garage in the local town/village of La Murada. This is around 40 minutes drive from Alicante Airport (Please use Atesta as your preferred car hire company in Spain and choose FULL TO FULL fuel option!). When we arrived one quick call to Claire and Claire's parnter Martin arrived within a few short minutes to collect us and lead the way to the cave. Another tip if your mobile phone does not work in Spain as my Three mobile didn't please drive into the town and on the opposite side of the road is a public telephone that requires a Euro coin to make the call. Don't try the garage as the owners doesn't speak English and couldn't assist. We followed Martin through La Murada and the next tiny village Los Rocambros (spelling could be iffy) and your out again in the Spanish countryside with Mountain views. After 1 minute outside of the village you head up a track and you arrive at Loma Alto, the Cave House.

Claire was waiting for us on arrival and both her and Martin were lovely. They showed us around the cave and gave us great info on how to inhabit a cave house, it's a living, breathing house so certain rules, easy to follow must be adhered to. Well the house was stunning. At the rear of the cave there is a double bedroom and a twin bedroom with a bathroom and a large walk in wardrobe as such, you then go through Moroccan style pierced doors into the dining room, that contains a music player plus a collection of CD's. Off this room to the right is the Kitchen with a walk in pantry/annex that has more cupboard space and a large fridge freezer. The Kitchen has a large 5 ring gas oven/microwave/pizza oven/toaster as well as all the cutlery/plates and cooking utensils and pots/pans you could desire. To the left of the dining room is a small stairway(four steps) that twist through the cave to a large living room. This has a leather suite with a flatscreen TV with freeview SKY TV and a DVD player. On the other side of the room is another door that leads to a large double bedroom with en-suite shower and toilet facilities. There are two doors to the property that lead to the outside that are secured with a very secure grill type door that lets airflow called wrekkers. This leads to a large outside courtyard that contains Three seating areas/BBQ and the beautiful pool. This also has two chairs and three sunbeds plus an outside shower. The pool was very welcoming with the 40 degree temperatures reached late afternoon. A further smaller courtyard to the side of the gateway entrance leads to a separate double bedroom with it's own en-suite bathroom with bath and shower. The Cave also has wifi, it struggles inside the cave due to the walls thickness except the en-suite bedrooms and just outside the cave.

La Murada does have it's own supermarket as has the next town Benferris. We also used the Max Dia in Oriheula whose prices were unbelievable. For day trips we visited Rio Safari in Elche/Santi Pola which we highly recommend, Guadalest which is around 1 hr 20 drive but so worth it the views and town were stunning. We also visited Old Benidorm for shopping (so so, a bit Skeggy but Ok for cheaper gifts). The waterpark in Torrevieja called Flamingo was superb for smaller to early teens being safe, small yet loads of fun, not expensive and couple of minutes wait for the rides.

The market on Sunday morning in La Murada that starts at 8am is a must visit. It takes over the whole towns backstreets and has fruit/veg, clothing and numerous other items. Make sure you negotiate.

The restaurant in Benferris was lovely seating on a high veranda. The woman who ran it was great and looked after us superbly and the beer was only 2.20 euro a pint.

Overall we loved our stay at the Cave House, we appreciated the kind offers of advice and help from Claire and Martin and we have found a stunning retreat in the Alicante area that is not the normal crowded Spain we hate.

Do not hesitate and book now!

“Lovely relaxing house and surroundings.”
Reviewed 18 August 2014 for a stay in August 2014

On holiday with 3 children we found this gem with a lovely pool to use and a lot of sight seeing within a short drive.
The house is cool if instructions are followed which was nice as there is no aircon.
I would stay again as it was perfect for recharging the batteries
Thank you.

“Peaceful location to unwind.”
Reviewed 13 April 2014 for a stay in April 2014

We stayed at the villa for a week. With children of mixed ages, there was plenty of space for the six of us, the villa was very clean and had lots of nice extra s like a games chest. It s set in a small village, you will need a car to get around. The location suited us as we wanted a peaceful break. There is a supermarket in the village Which was handy. Claire the lady who owns the villa is very friendly and offered us help with places of interest to visit, and good places to eat. There is lots to do within a short drive. We really enjoyed the spa baths at fortuna.
