“Rather a disappointing stay”

Rather disappointing stay

On arriving to the villa for our two week stay around Christmas and New Year the first impression was of unbearable cold inside of the house. The villa doesn't have central heating and those 2.5 heaters we had (the third one barely functioning) weren't enough to keep the house warm. The owner gave us two more heaters we asked for (albeit, two days later), only then we could stop sleeping fully dressed. We still had to abandon the master bedroom upstairs as the room was too big to be heated up to a survival condition with one heater only.

On first glance the villa seemed fairly cleaned but the kitchen cabinets inside had oil spills, bread crumbs, food residue, etc. The inside of the ovens, the trays as well as the barbecue outside looked like they had never been cleaned in their entire life. Both of two remaining frying pans were in appalling condition with a thick layer of soot and dirt combined with dust. The glasses, plates, bowls most of them hadn't been properly cleaned for our arrival either. Lots of the bowls and plates are chipped. All the soft furnishings are dusty, the blankets and pillows most likely have never been aired, leave alone dry cleaned. A good dry cleaning or airing at the very least of the bedding could potentially help with this sour odour hanging in most of bedrooms.

The dishwasher is in dire need to be updated. Unfortunately the owner is in a complete denial about this. For the time being the dishwasher seems to be serving the only purpose - to tick the box in the property description. The same applies more or less to the microwave. Both the dishwasher and microwave can be turned on which still doesn't mean they'll function properly.

Considering it was a winter stay it was a way too cold to dine al fresco. With the dining area inside non-existent we had to take our dinners at the breakfast bar, to make it even less comfortable the bar stools had no height adjustment so we looked more like birds hanging on tree branches. So much to enjoy the family Christmas dinner.

I most likely wouldn't notice it in summer but in winter the house definitely needs more lighting. None of the bedrooms downstairs (even though that have no windows) have ceiling lights, those ceiling lights that were in other areas were anyway too dim to read or even play games. The living room is illuminated only by the lights from the kitchen area which is not enough for winter.

As if a joke the bathrooms had light switch activated on entering. If there was no movement it would turn off within less than a minute. In order to brush the teeth, leave alone to take a shower and keep the lights on one has to do a bit of tap dancing every 30 seconds or so to keep the light on. It was excruciatingly annoying! I think if a villa called is a luxury one the timer should be set up for at least 5-10 minutes before allowing the light to go off. I personally would appreciate to choose for myself when to turn the light on and off.

The heated pool adds more irony to the story. We only rented this particular villa because of the heated swimming pool. During our two weeks stay not even once we could use the pool - its temperature being less than 20 degrees. By owner's own admission the sea is currently warmer than the pool.

A bit on the surroundings, not a complain this time, just for your information. The villa is 20-30 minutes from the beach of Las Americas or Los Christianos. About 1 hour from Santa Cruz and 1.5 hours from Loro Park. It's in the mountains and temperature is colder by about 5 degrees than that on the coast. There's also more wind and a bit more cloudy. It might be nice in summer, in winter one may like to bring more long-sleeved t-shirts.

“This place made our fantastic family surprise holiday!”
Reviewed 20 November 2013 for a stay in November 2013

I would highly recommend The Manor House, for a group holiday, be it with extended family or friends of all ages.
Not only was Mark very accommodating of our requests for secrecy during the planning of our trip (as our holiday was a big surprise for our Dads 60th), but the villa when we all arrived, lended itself perfectly for our 10 person family, of 3 generations. It was plenty big enough, without being enormous inside, and the outside was so equipped for all our needs we virtually didnt venture out of the gates all the time we were there.
A must, if you are in Tenerife wanting a relaxing, fun, holiday with family or friends.

“Great Family holiday”
Reviewed 10 August 2013 for a stay in August 2013

Spent a week at the Manor House with 3 teenagers, all quite reluctant to go out as they had enough to entertain them at the villa (Wi-Fi, swimming pool, tennis, pool table). However when we did go out, only a short drive to Las Americas and Siam Water park. Definitely need a car. Mark very helpful and pointed us in the direction of decent supermarkets. If we return to Tenerife, all agreed we would stay here again.

“Big house, great value”
Reviewed 14 July 2013 for a stay in July 2013

A large house that has been put together with some style. Lots of space and facilities. Reasonable sized heated pool with plenty of space around it. Large equipped games room. Large level drive for parking/games. Also lawns /gardens offering sun and shade with brick bbq. Plenty to do at the villa. Quiet location. A car is pretty essential. The often touted satelite tv really has lots of UK channels So refreshing to find an owner that thinks this is what you want when you look for a villa with satelite tv advertised. Wifi with reasonable speed. Typical of the honest providing Mark offers. Local town (Granadilla) has the island's best rated restaurant, 10 mins drive. Medano has simple beach with simple range of foods, shared by locals and mixed tourists alike.

“Superb location”
Reviewed 19 April 2013 for a stay in April 2013

First off, this place is great value - the space offered is exceptional and I'm sure even if you had the full compliment of people you'd still have stacks of space to spare.

This is a house where you WILL need a car to be practical. But, if you're like us, that's a massive bonus. You don't have any neighbours to speak of and that's something I can really recommend!

Mark, the owner, is a great guy and really willing to help with anything.

We had a fantastic stay and will definitely be looking to come back next year.

Compared with previous houses we've rented in the area, this is by far and away the best in terms of space and value.
