This is the real deal in rustic castle lodging and I loved it. Remote and private. There is a cemetery in the courtyard, which made it all the more interesting. There are 2 sections of the castle on 3 floors. The top level is the best and make sure to specify this section if you rent. Our rental was on the 1st and 2cd level. Kitchen on 1st, bedrooms on 2cd. The stairs were in a common area. There was a strong sewer smell off our balcony so we didn't really use it. Marc was an excellent host and provided us with a bottle of wine and water since we had spent hours lost on a mountain goat trail. He also credited us for the disappointment of not having the better apartment, which was not explained to us on rental. The castle had a lot of cellar spiders. The sheets could have been a bit fresher. NOTE: Do not arrive after dark! Leave early with plenty of daylight. Google Maps and GPS were wrong and tried to take us over a washed out mountain road. The better directions were heading toward Santa Maria de Basora out of Ripoll. This lodging is not for the disabled or physically unfit. There is a steep hike up the hill to the castle. Luggage was hauled up via a cable trolly. Castell de Llaes is rustic, not the Parador. All part of the charm.
This castle was in an incredible location. The owners live on-site and are incredible helpful and friendly. The one thing to be aware of if you rent the smaller apartment (3BRDM) is that the kitchen is downstairs and separate from the bedrooms. This wasn't that big of an issue for us, but I just think it's nice to know. Also, only one bedroom has internet as the router is located in the larger apartment.
