Highly recommend this alternate route between the Inishowen Peninsula and the Causeway coast of Northern Ireland. Traveling the scenic Lough Foyle, rather than fighting the roundabouts of Derry are a no-brainer. During prime tourist season, drive to Greencastle harbour, get in the queue, the Ferry arrives every half hour from 9am to evening, pay the ferryman a fee you easily spend on a few "Guinness"! A bonus is driving beneath Mussendum Temple of Bishop Harvey at Castlerock and witnessing some of the prettiest scenery that you can view in Northern Ireland.
