A beautifully appointed house in charming grounds teeming with wildlife. Warm and very comfortable, plus the fire in the lounge kept us extra toasty. There's a public footpath just by the cottage and even a short walk up through the heather will be rewarded with spectacular views. The pub nearby is very welcoming if you don't feel like cooking (torch to find your way home helpfully provided in the cottage!), and Hayfield is easily reached on foot (about a mile on the footpath off Slack Lane). Ideal for anyone looking for peace and quiet.

Stunning period building in a beautiful woodland setting, steeped in history of the original Park Hall Manor Estate. A truly wonderful relaxing escape. Owner/residents made us so welcome! Loved our time here. Gamekeepers Cottage had everything you need for a pampered stay; well equipped kitchen, beautifully decorated bedrooms. Newly renovated so everything was immaculate. The area was so calm and peaceful; peacock, ducks and rabbits mill around the carp filled pond. It is a good location to "get away" from everything. Walked straight out the front door onto National Trust moorland and over to Kinder Scout. The Cottage is within relatively close vicinity of all the Peak District's prominent attractions - Castleton, Mam Tor, caverns, Stannage Edge, Sett Valley and Mensal cycle trails, Chatsworth, Bakewell, Buxton, National Trust properties, canal, skate parks for children... Our two week stay allowed us to properly explore the area. It was such a perfect "home" to come back to each eve. Highly recommend!

“Comfortable and spacious cottage in a great area for both city trips and varied walks”

We were in the Gamekeepers cottage for 10 days and found it very pleasant and comfortable. The rooms are spacious and the surroundings very peaceful and nice, with ducks, rabbits, squirls and a peacock wandering around. The kitchen is adequately equipped and all in all, we found the cottage a great place to spend 10 days in.
Since we travelled with our two teenage children, we wanted to spend some time in Liverpool and Manchester, as well as enjoy rural life, and we made several nice walks. The Peak district is very varied from north to south and although I'm sure we didn't see all there is, the location of the cottage was a good starting point to explore both North (Ladybower reservoir / Snake Pass) and South (for instance Dovedale). In de West we visited Matlock and to the East of course Liverpool which is a great city (aprrox. 1.20 hrs drive).
We also enjoyed Buxton (approx. 25 min.) very much. Here you can find all sorts of walking maps and guides in the great Tourist Office at Pavillion Gardens.
Finally, you can make pleasant and/or challenging walks right from the cottage info the moors.
We found that the cottage is well renovated and well looked after.

“Tranquil, comfortable and clean”

The Gamekeepers Cottage is up an unmade road in Little Hayfield, we had no trouble finding the cottage or using the road up.
The cottage itself is clean and seemed larger than the photo's show.
It has virtually everything you need for your stay inc washing machine and freezer.
Wifi was very good in every room and did not drop out at all.
Very quiet , no road noise and you can walk straight out the door and through gate up onto the moors.
Hayfield is about a 30 min easy walk where there are a few shops and pubs with good food.
Would most definitely stay again if in the area
