Love this pub but recently standards are slipping...tables are not being cleared and people are having to go to the bar to request clearance...and at the bar staff seem to ignore you/ or only one person in very busy periods. The senior management team are seldom seen at the place...but maybe standards have slipped a but to much .

Was recommended to stop here for lunch. Great surroundings. Friendly staff (and regulars). Good was terrific. Recommend the steak pie and 61 deep pale ale. All fabulous. Dog friendly too which just adds to the charm. Loved it.

We have eaten and drank in here many times and also had our wedding reception here 12 years ago. The beer is well kept and the food is very good. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Its situated in a very quaint village with stunning views of the surrounding hills. Well worth a visit.

We went for an evening meal and overnight stay on the day of the May Queen festival. We were greeted by the sight of the carpark absolutley jam packed with tipsy teenagers. Whilst waiting patiently for a gap to get into the carpark, a fight broke out and we had 5 or 6 boys rolling round on our bonnet throwing punches. The hotel had called the police so eventually order was restored and we managed to park. Noise went on quite late, but our room was well away from it.
The food was good, our room was clean and the bed very comfortable. Breakfast was good as well. Any other weekend we would have enjoyed our stay much more.

Thank you for your feedback and we are delighted you and your group enjoyed your stay and dinner here recently. May we point out that the youths you refer to were not at any point customers of ours and were from out of town. They had been on the May Queen Festival field earlier drinking their own alcohol, apparently, and were then moved on by the police. Unfortunately, they then gathered on the bridge in the village centre. A disturbance broke out which spilled over into our car park. This is completely untypical of both Hayfield and the annual May Queen Festival and we hope it won’t deter you from visiting again.

Staff were really friendly and the food was fantastic and we had a really nice stay!

Breakfast was really impressive and the staff were really helpful throughout our stay. Loved how family friendly the pub felt with dogs welcome.

Our room (room one) was overlooked by other buildings which felt a bit awkward (I had the curtains shut most of the time) but the room itself was nice. Shower was quite small and water pressure quite weak but fine for 1 nights stay. Bed was really comfy and en-suite was really nice.

One downside of our trip was that we were kept awake until 1am by music being played below us (our room was shaking from the bass) and shortly after the music stopped we had a short period where people were walking past our room, chatting and closing doors. We presumed there was a private function in the pub but when I mentioned this on check out the staff said they were unsure where the noise was coming from as the pub shut at midnight and there was no private function. I’ve no idea where the music was coming from or whose fault it was but it was incredibly frustrating when we had an early start planned for a busy next day!

    Hi Lindsay

Many thanks for your feedback. Can you please advise when you stayed at The Royal at Hayfield and I will be pleased to investigate further?

We haven’t had any late night functions recently and a 1am finish for a party is only ever permitted when they book all the guest bedrooms as well. Could the music have come from a neighbouring house perhaps? Like you, I’m a bit baffled and am sorry to hear you had a disturbed night.

    With best wishes

    Lisa
